“Good choice in Cairns”

This hotel is quieter than others in the neighborhood. I really enjoyed the open rainforest on the room levels and the views of the harbor.

“5 star hotel, 1 star service”

We only can classify this hotel as 5 stars for its hardwares. Softwares are totally failed even worse than a motel! Front desk is unhelpful. House keeping always forget to re-fill our daily items. We only can reaslize what kind of items we should normally have after 5 days stayed. More worse is when the first day we entry our room, an empty ice cream rubbish box was inside the refrigerator and last to our second day until we throw into the rubbish bin by ourselvies!

“Top Notch and Affordable”

This is a quality Hilton hotel. One of the better hotels in Cairns and located perfectly on the waterfront next to the central business district. In spite of that, the rates were very attractive when we booked. Greatly enjoyed our stay.

Shopping
If you want to pick up some affordable groceries, there is a Woolworth's a few blocks away. The night markets are about two blocks away on the esplanade, and were very interesting. There is a shopping mall about 4 blocks straight into town away from the beach. One really nice place to set up a dive course or trip is Pro Dive Cairns.

“Very average”

Very average. I would say its no more than a 2 to 3 star hotel, and to be fair that is all it cost. It's in a good location but its well below what I'd expect of a Hilton. From a distance its impressive, and the lobby is nice. I asked to borrow an adapter and was told one would be brought to my room. I waited an hour and had to ask again. They didn't have any. It would have been nice if they had offered that info rather than me waiting for a knock on the door that wasn't coming. The internet was US$30 a day. This seems excessive. More so as the only page I got to work was the one stating I'd been billed. After that it wouldn't work. I complained at reception and I was told "yeah, sometimes certain rooms have trouble with connection". I was refunded and given a free half hour on the business centre computer. It had the speed of dial up ten years ago. To cap it all the hotel seemed to be in a blind spot for cell phones. I could only recieve emails and surf the web on the blackberry if I left the hotel. The rooms were just OK. However, there were stubbed out cigarette buts on the balcony. The balcony was not regularly cleaned and dirt and slime from the tropical weather covered parts of the wall. The toilet door skirting seemed to be in the early stages of rotting. The edge of the ceiling over the shower had peeling paint and was covered in grime. But apart from that the room was mostly clean. Its a relatively cheap room for those just passing through Cairns.

“Not impressed!”

The exterior of the hotel was beautiful, and the view of the bay from our room was lovely...we were on 5th floor. We found the shower/tub to have moldy grout, and our room was much too tight and crowded. The hotel, in our opinion, was not 5-star.

“Nice Hotel, Great Location”

Walking into the hotel is very impressive with the refurbished lobby. The doorman usually greeted us by name which I thought was nice. We were able to check in early and our requested refurbished room was granted. My only regret was not upgrading to an executive suite that had a fully refurbished bathroom as well. The bathroom in our room was a bit dated but didn't spoil our enjoyment of the Hilton. It was centrally located to most shopping, food, and activities. I really loved our trip to Cairns and I would recommend the Hilton. I would give this hotel 4 Stars.

Area recommendations
I would recommend the Esplanade area because it's within walking distance to some fabulous restaurants, shopping, and the docks which most water activities depart from. It is very beautiful.
Must see
If you are an animal lover, walk down to the Public Library in the evenings to check out the fruit bats that hang out in the trees. There are tons flying around and it is an awesome sight!

“One of the best situated hotels in the city, right in or near action!”

Loved people and Loved location, and hotel. I really loved the cheap laundry , with the discount so got big load taken same day, folded and returned for $15. Even when I did the laundry myself in Sydney, it cost about that. So I loved the ease of them doing it, all came back folded...just a great hotel!

Area recommendations
Any place near the marina, because the boats to the Great Barrier Reef leave from there, the small buses come get you for other trips like Kuranda railroad/Skye Tram trip.
What to pack
You only need light clothes because it is hot there.

“Fantastic stay at the Hilton”

Excellent hotel in a good location. The included breakfast was outstanding. Only a short walk to the center of Cairns, wharf restaurants, and the barrier reef fleet of boats. The hotel exceeded our expectations.

“Great location and friendly staff.”

Hilton Cairns location is convenient to the central activity of Cairns Esplanade and close to the harbor. The hotel staff is friendly and accomodating with the added convenience of a day trip tour agent to book activities in the area. Overall, my stay was comfortable and enjoyable. Would consider staying at the Hilton again if I visit Cairns in the future.

Area recommendations
Esplanade. Lots of shopping, dining, pubs, pool and activities jumping off point. However, the city is not large and most of the shopping, dining, etc is within a very short walking distance from the hotel. If you want to do day trips for snorkeling, scuba diving, rain forest trips, skydiving, etc. each company will pick you up at your accomodation. There is lots to do in Cairns and the nearby towns in North Queensland. I wouldn't advise booking any day trips ahead of your arrival because there are so many booking offices and tours to choose from when you arrive that you may not find on the internet. For the adventure seekers: there is scuba, skydiving, bungy jumping, ATV tours, whitewater rafting, hang gliding, parasailing, surfing, etc... For the more relaxed holiday there are rainforest trips, horseback riding, snorkeling, glass bottom boats, etc. Lots of activities to suit any traveler.

“Next Door to the Great Barrier Reef”

Hilton Cairns was ideally located right at the piers where many of the yachts departed for the Great Barrier Reef. It was also centrally located to all the waterfront parks and restaurants, and had a 24 hour convenience store nearby. The service was impeccable, and the morning breakfast at the hotel was a great way to start each day. It was a full meal with all kinds of hot breakfast and health foods along with Asian food.

Area recommendations
This area around the hotel is ideal since it is centrally located yet not noisy with a lot of street traffic. The balconies offer a great view of the city, mountains, and the seashore. Area is also quite safe.
Outdoors or beach
The man-made lagoon and park near the hotel has a lot of free activities such as concerts, dancing, exercise, or just swimming and lounging around. This is great if you go to Cairns during box jellyfish season but still want to get some swimming in.
