Don't think that because the Acacia Court is on the Esplanade in Cairns it will be in a relatively upmarket tourist area - wrong. It's at the far end of the Esplanade, a really dog-eared property, with unsavoury characters wandering around the car park and lobby area, even during daylight hours. You would think that as each room has a balcony that you would be able to enjoy sitting out on it - but no, they have locked every balcony door in every room (to do with the air con) so that is ruled out. On returning later in the evening after dinner with friends I was propositioned in the car park (I'm 61!!), so although I'm used to unsavoury approaches from a lifetime of travel, it's worth being vigilant if you are travelling/staying there on your own.

We really loved staying at Acacia. Friendly staff, very nice pool area, beautiful view of the beach and walking distance to night life and dining options. All of our excursions picked us up and dropped us off. We booked two extra nights we loved the hotel and area so much!

Updates and new management needed!
Not updated since the late 70s/early 80s. The view, pool and location are great, but it needs updating! Restaurant/bar always closed. Food looks gross! Reception barely speaks English in an English-speaking country. Fire alarm went off around 1am. There's signs all over about not doing anything to trigger fire alarm and if you do, $2000 fine. Reception open 7-9. Pick up keys from safe with late checkin - weird and doesn't seem very safe.

No water in fridge and was told we had to pay for water. Room Nd hallway smelt of wet carpet and mould. Bathroom door had to stay closed even if u wanted to spray perfume because if it set smoke alarm off we had to pay over $1000. Staff were not helpful or friendly at all. 2 twice we stay Accacia court the alarm went off very bad very much disappointed, and then since we arrived there’s no remote control the tv were looks everywhere we can’t fined it then I call the service, an hr later bring the remote control and she said remote control always beside the tv but it wast there at all thank you

The staff weren’t particularly friendly to start with. Originally told I couldn’t have a second key to the room. Got one the following day. There were burnt out cars and other wrecks in the tennis court (it was padlocked) and at least once had to exit the building through a group of people yelling and screaming at each other. Another time had clearly intoxicated people asking for access to one of the floors. Overall not particularly comfortable in that environment. Breakfast was included but it seems that communication is not great. The waitress had to go to reception to confirm that breakfast was included. The food was standard hotel fare but the coffee machine was awful. The room was clean but the hot water was not particularly hot at various times. If I go back to Cairns, I won’t stay here unless I can’t find anywhere else suitable.

Possible the worst hotel in the world … If you like haunted houses this is the place for you …cheap and nasty you get what you deserve … Would have been great 40 years ago … That’s as complimentary as I can get …

To be honest, I think it was run down. The indigenous locals seem to have the run of the place. The lifts reeked of body odour. Lucky for us, we only booked for 2 days. We checked out and booked another 2 nights in Cairn in another motel. Seems to me, this hotel is a tax write off for a company!

We were woken up at 3am because they have a bad venting system for shower steam and set off the fire alarm every one in the building had to get up and go to the emergency area while waiting for the fire brigade to tell us it’s okay to go Back in, I questioned it the next day and didn’t really offer anything for the inconvenience and the unpleasant stay not even a sorry. as I didn’t end up sleeping after the alarm going off a bit annoyed as I was needing a good sleep because I was driving long hours the next day. Very disappointed

I enjoyed my time here. I had a great view of the Esplanade. The room was comfortable and clean. The staff were helpful. I would definitely recommend The Acacia Hotel.

Looks like the place has fallen on hard times, skeleton staff, a bottle shop in the foyer is closed and the front rooms of the hotel had otherwise homeless people using the rooms as lodging. I wouldn’t blame the staff for the hotel falling into disrepute, I suspect the current trying times we’re in is to blame.

An ageing property that is being updated bit by bit. Shower soap dish was corroded beyond belief. Shower tap was years beyond being replaced. They are trying and everything was cleaned well but somethings just need to be replaced.

Spend the extra money on a nice place. The nicest thing in the room was the new TV. There is no heat for the rainy cold days. The doors lock at 9pm and you are given a code to type in. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t. It is an Asian owned hotel so don’t expect to be able to understand hotel staff or them to understand you. There is no one at the desk after 9pm. If you come back after 9pm and see a door open take that opportunity to get to the lobby before it closes. If you want food it is a mile and a half away down near the peer. Stay close to the peer.

Comfortable, safe & quiet accommodation. I was located on the 4th floor with a mountain view. Clean, comfortable room. Pool is great. Walkable along a beautiful Esplanade, 10-15mins to many dining options.
