“Spacious apartment by the beach”

Stayed at Roydon Apartments for 3 days. Upon check-in, we got upgrate to 2 bedroom apartment. the office has lots of information about local attractions and can help with booking activities or car hire. Manager was very friendly and took us on a brief tour of the apartment. It is very spacious, with nice balcony and trees around the property providing privacy. The kitchen was fully equipped with cookware and utensils, and there were some basics for morning tea. All restaurants in Trinity Beach are located within walking distance, but they all close at 7-8 PM Apartment is located by the beach, but also has 2 salt-water pools on the property. There was an in-room safe, but we could not figure out how to use it. Also has a parking available. Only negative impression was finding bugs (tropical roaches) in the room.

Water is calm in the morning, but gets rough in the afternoon with the tide coming in. Best time to visit the beach would be in morning hours.

Although your holiday was brief we're delighted you enjoyed our In-House comforts, saw the sights and that your seaview apartment at The Roydon and its private treed acreage gave you relaxation, comfort and opportunity to enjoy calm beach mornings and sheltered poolside afternoons. In-Room safes are deliberately challenging; their purpose to hold valuables and documents private and secure. Operational instructions are supplied in-room. Had you informed us of your Safe difficulty during stay you would have received our assistance for immediate rectification. Your 'Dining/Restaurant' comment, 'they all close at 7-8 PM' is misleading and inaccurate. You holidayed during a busy Peak period when nearby restaurants overflow with patrons and generally close from 9.30-10 PM, subject to reservations, public demand, passing trade and celebratory occasions. You also state, 'only negative impression was finding bugs in the room.' You fail to mention that on check-in to your apartment you saw an 'already dead' insect (singular) on an outside walkway that we immediately collected and, with you, we entered the apartment and made a bug search to attempt your calm and comfort. Together we found no insects or their evidence and you made no other comment to us about bugs during your stay. The tropics is known for its diverse insect population; butterflies, beetles, green ants and geckos, to name a few. Each is intricate to the fragile balance of our amazing Eco System. Although harmless, they can cause nuisance to guests adverse to small skittish creatures. To avoid discomfort, insect screens fitted throughout every apartment should remain closed when not in use. At the rear of its property The Roydon's 2 private saltwater pools capture all day sun, shade and soft cooling breezes. Ideal for guests who enjoy morning walks and beach swims and afternoon poolside barbeques and sun lounge relaxation under swaying tropical palms.

“Roydon Apt Hotel”

Although Trinity Beach is beautiful, it is located far from Cairns. It is misleading to state that Roydon is is located in Cairns-Trinity Beach. This place is for families or group of people who stay more than a week.

Technology avails traveller's extensive detailed opportunities to ideally research destination and accommodation information and secure travel and holiday reservations as they personally choose and decide. This, together with consistent highly rated guest testimonials of The Roydon Beachfront for its standard of relaxed accommodation, friendly hospitality and central beach location, complimented by its 2011 Expedia Insiders Select Award (chosen by Expedia customers as No. 16 of the top 500 hotel/accommodations worldwide) and that the Chicago reviewer booked 'on-line' with us 2 weeks in advance of stay, allowing ample time to reconsider their accommodation choice and its destination, seemingly indicates these Chicago guests made an incorrect vacation decision for their particular holiday needs and, seemingly, at no fault of others. The reviewer correctly states, "Trinity Beach is Beautiful". It's known as 'Cairns Best Beach'! Only 15 minutes drive North from Cairns Domestic & International Airports and 20 minutes from Cairns' Central Business District. Trinity Beach is close and convenient yet so different. Here the pace is slower and smiles come easily! Its central beach village location to popular attractions and shops, cafés, restaurants, transports, amenities and facilities ideally caters to the needs of most singles, couples, families or group holiday-makers and those desiring to see Reef and Rainforest sights or adventure off the beaten track during short stays, easy tropical holidays or lazy extended sojourns. If a busy fast paced City atmosphere and Nightclub/Casino scene is your vacation choice then Trinity Beach is not for you. However visitors choosing to remove themselves from the hubbub and enjoy casual poolside relaxation, beach walks, day tours and Award Winning wining and dining all within a few minutes easy walking distance of The Roydon Beachfront should find Trinity Beach an ideal and centrally located holiday destination. “Best Accommodations of our Trip!”

We LOVED our room at the Roydon Beachfront Apartments! It was huge, with large rooms throughout... we were only two people but we could have had six comfortably. More importantly, Eddie & Julie were so helpful with excursions and airport transportation. We simply could not have been happier with our experience and if we're ever fortunate enough to return to Trinity Beach to see The Great Barrier Reef again, we know where we'll be staying.

Getting around

Because we did a few excursions, we didn't bother with a rental car, because they all pick up right at the street corner. There were several restaurants within easy walking distance along with a convenience store. The full grocery store was about a 10 minute walk, but they would give you a complimentary lift back to the room if you spent enough money.

“Just what we were looking for.”

This holiday was for my 70-something parents, I was their "tour guide". We didn't want to be in Cairns, so going north to Trinity Beach was the right thing for us. The location and set up of the hotel was great for their needs. The hotel is just across the road from the beach which my mom walked several times a day collecting shells. Eddie, the manager, was very attentive to our needs and helpful in making suggestions of what to do and handled all the arrangements for the tours. For a casual, relaxed holiday the Roydon is the perfect place to stay. I am looking forward to going back.

“Great Management, Beautiful location! December 2010”

Roydon proved to be a great location for our family! The apartment was extremely spacoius and clean with spotless bathrooms! From the cooler and tupperware provided for picnic, and the poolside grills, every little detail was though of. We truly had NO WORRIES, since Eddie took care of just about everything for us,great reccomendations and even booked our tours! The location was fantastic since we had buses at the corner to pick us up four all our excursions to the Great Barrier Reef and Rain Forest. Also FREE INTERNET was available, only place we found with it!

Must see

The Great Barrier Reef is a must see! No other place has it organized to dive and snorkel in such an easy fashion. The diversity and beauty of the reef is beyond compare.

“Trinity Beach best buy!”

We found this facility to be excellent and everything that was mentioned . Eddie, the manager, was very helpful and coordinated our trips off the property. He arranged for a last minute car rental and was interested in our experience being a good one. The location was great and the rooms very spacecious and well appointed. The free wifi internet was another high point. Overall excellent property and highly recommended!

“Home Away From Home”

It was daunting to choose accommodations base on the surplus of hotels and resorts in the area, but we couldn’t be happier with our decision. We are travelers in our late 20’s, but didn’t want the crowds, bars, or screaming children that seem to frequent the popular resorts. Eddie and Julie (the hosts) were personable and accommodating. They suggested and arranged a few tours, which more than exceeded our expectations. The apartment we rented was clean, fully stocked with dishware, had pots and pans, and the basic amenities. We also had cable, free wi-fi, and privacy. Laying out by the well maintained salt water pool, the only other people we encountered were a few friendly retired couples. The apartments are a block away from the bus/tour stop, several restaurants, liquor store, convenient store, and the beach. They are also within walking distance of the local supermarket, park, and small shopping center. We visited the other beaches, and walked through some of the other accommodations, however they all have the “hotel anywhere” tourist vibe. I felt our location embodied the laid back, no fills, friendly attitude that I found in most of the Australians I met.

Getting around

The local Sunbus with take you into Cairns or the northern beaches. It's cheaper than a cab, and takes about 20 minutes.

What to pack

Sunscreen, or UV protective clothing if traveling in spring/summer.

Must see

Daintree Rainforest, Mossman Gorge, Kuranda Skyrail, and a day on the Great Barrier Reef (we did Green Island).

“Trinity Beach is the place to be!”

We stayed at the Roydon Beachfront Apartments for 5 nights in late September. The two-bedroom/two-bathroom apartment was very large and well maintained. The view of the Coral Sea from our balcony was amazing. There are 3 wonderful restaurants with fabulous food a few steps from the facility. Eddie was very helpful arranging our tours (see other reviews). If you want a nice & restful stay in the Cairns area and don't want all the noise, confusion & crowds of Cairns, stay here. It is worth every penny. We noticed people of all ages - families, young couples and older empty nesters. Your lodging is steps from the ocean and a pool. We loved every minute of our stay!

Area recommendations

Trinity Beach is a great place to stay if you want to visit the Great Barrier Reef area. It is 20 minutes from Cairns (where the harbor is located) as well as the Cairns Airport.

“Should have stayed longer at Trinity Beach”

My husband, teenage daughter and I stayed at the Roydon Beachfront Apartments in Trinity Beach in mid-August 2010 after staying 5 days in Sydney and 4 days in Brisbane. We wish we would have spent less time in Brisbane and stayed longer at Trinity Beach. We arrived late, after 9 pm, at Cairns Airport and was greeted by a very polite driver arranged by the Roydon who took us straight to our beachfront apartment. Our 2-bedroom, 2-bath apartment was spacious, with large balcony, granite countertops in the kitchen and baths. The unit was super clean with modern appliances, washer/dryer, and all the kitchenware and supplies you need. They also have a nice-size pool. The property manager, Eddie, arranged for all our transportation and tours, with no add-on fees. If you need anything, the friendly staff is more than happy to help and give advice. We went snorkeling at the Great Barrier Reef and took the train and skyrail tour to/from Kuranda and rainforest - both tours conveniently arranged by Eddie. If we had more time, we would have hung out and spent more time enjoying the beach. The Roydon is a great value with an awesome beachfront location. We sure hope to return soon!

Getting there

If you can, try to take a late afternoon flight out of Cairns Airport, not an early morning (6 AM) flight. It's much less stressful and you can spend some time on the beach before departing.

Outdoors or beach

Trinity Beach is a beautiful, clean, and laid-back beach that is not crowded. There are areas to barbecue and a play structure for children. Nice restaurants and grocery stores are within walking distance. We swam in the ocean and walked along the picturesque beach -- a very relaxing, and welcome change after all our sight-seeing and shopping in big cities of Sydney and Brisbane.
