“Not too helpful”

We had a bus picking us up. We stood in the wrong place. The bus company called the front desk asking them to check to see if we were standing out in front, which was not the place to stand. They did not check for the bus company. We were, in fact, in the wrong place. And we almost missed our connection. Not good. The bus driver said that they have problems with this resort all the time. Problem is that in the morning you meet the busses in front. All other times, you meet them in the back. They should always be in the front thereby avoiding such problems.

The location wasn't too bad...just away from everything. On the plus side it was right next to the botanical gardens.

“Nothing outstanding”

We stayed at the Lakes for one night before moving on to Port Douglas. The room was huge and fairly clean but pretty old. The TV had basically only one channel and the radio useless. The location itself is not central.

“Excellent family stay”

We stayed just two (split) nights on way to and from an overnight dive boat trip but could see that a longer stay at The Lakes resort would be merited. The large two bedroom apartment was perfect. We had one meal (seafood buffet) in the resort restaurant where food was great. Atmosphere of restaurant is basic but adequate for family. All in all a very nice place to stay and good value for amenities.

“Great value”

Rented a condo for four nights. Was well furnished and clean. Very limited grocery shopping available nearby, so if you plan on using the kitchen, better bring the food with you or rent a car or take the bus to get to shopping. Overall, a great value for the price. Note: there are no elevators; our condo was on third floor, so we got a workout with our 50 pound luggage bags.

“Grest resort”

I would recommend this resort as a great couple or family get away. Very well run, comfortable beds and rooms, great staff, nice pools. Quite far from town tho, but we like to walk, and they also offer a paid shuttle service.

Area recommendations
We drove up to the tablelands and enjoyed the scenery. We also drove the waterfall route, there are so many waterfalls to see.

“Nice property but could use improvement”

Overall the property is nice and well cared for on the outside. Has three beautiful pools that are very relaxing. "Gymnasium" has very little cardio equipment and is outdated. Spotty internet service depending where you are located on property. Ours worked most of the time but there were periods when we had no service. Cleanliness of room left much to be desired. Furniture and linens were stained, dirty carpet and dead ants in cupboard. Overall whole room need a deep cleaning.

“Good hotel with great location but can have better service”

I think the Lakes in general is good. Very close to the airport. There is a convenient store nearby so we pretty much got whatever we need there. But I think the hotel service could have been better. 1) The hotel only offers one-way shuttle bus service to the airport. Don't understand why they don't offer round trips? 2) If you have a lot of luggages and live upstairs, be aware. Don't think the hotel guys will help. 3) Internet service is too expensive. 2 bucks for 15 minutes. If you use their computers, be careful, always crash.

Area recommendations
Good neighborhood - close to the airport. But a little bit far from downtown if you don't have a car.

“Adequate for a single night stay”

We chose Lake Cairns for a one night stay because we had an early flight out the next day. We were traveling with two teenagers and needed a room that slept four. Lake Cairns was adequate in meeting these two requirements. It is important to note the property is really a combination of daily rent apartments and a traditional apartment complex. There are people who are regular residents there. While very roomy, the interior of the apartments were rather spartan. And, as others have noted, it is in the flight plan for the airport - noisy but convenient.
