“Never stay again”

I felt very uncomfortable as some of the hotel staffs were totally not friendly just like they looked down on me. (Worst one was a Concierge.) There were too many staffs at lobby, who had no intention to take care of customer. Maybe it is because I am East Asian. They treated European customers very nicely, while they changed their face once they turned their face to me. This hotel ruined my trip. I need to say they were even rude and arrogant to me. I never recommend and never chose Sofitel again. If you are Japanese or Korean or Chinese or South Asian, I strongly recommend you not to chose this hotel.

“Great hotel”

We were pleased with the room which was on the 22nd floor and had wonderful views of Cairo and the Nile from the balcony. We particularly enjoyed having access to the club and had a very pleasant snack in the evening when we arrived and a delicious breakfast. Also the hotel was quiet and we were not disturbed by noise from other rooms. It was convenient to get a taxi and the hotel staff told us how much the trip would cost. We definitely recommend this hotel.

“An amazing city and and even more amazing hotel.”

Cairo is amazing. The Pyramids are breath-taking, and so was our hotel. The Sofitel is a true 5 star hotel. It's expensive, but has an amazing design, the staff are polite and friendly, the pool has a amazing view over the Nile, as do the rooms. The room are surprisingly spacious and well designed - a mix between classical and contemporary styles completed with taste. The location is great: it's relatively near to most sights, is in the beautiful 'Garden City' area, but is made by it's perfect Nile location. It has five varied restaurants, which all sit on a perfectly located boardwalk surrounding the hotel... all in all, excellent!

Area recommendations
I'd recommend three main areas: (i) Old Cairo and Khan-e Khalili Bazaar, this area is traditional and not too touristy. You can also take in the Citadel and some of the beautiful old Islamic Mosques and Universities in this area; (ii) The Pyramids, what more needs to be said, except make sure you pre-book and attend the Sound and Light Show - awesome; and (iii) 'Garden City', this is the area immediately surrounding the hotel. It represents the contemporary heart of the city, and it's beautiful to walk the banks of the Nile and contains many interesting, expensive (by Egyptian standards) hotels, restaurants and cafes.
Getting around
We got around by taxi and walked. Walking was leisurely to take in the streets etc but when we had to get somewhere we took a taxi. Make sure you go by the meter or agree a price in advance!
Dining
There are some fantastic Egyptian restaurants around Cairo, many in walking distance of the Sofitel. Our preferred choice was a contemporary Egyptian restaurant called Abu El Cid. It has great stuffed pigeon and does a number of Morrocan-type Tajine's as well. Do book in advance on weekends though. Also you could try out some of the Nile boat-restaurants (some of which are fixed and some of which cruise the Nile during your dinner). Those that cruise go in two shifts every evening. If you like fresh seafood try the Fish Market. The hotel can provide bookings.
Events and shows
Don't forget to see the Pyramids by night. The show sometimes looses you in the intricacies of Egyptian history, but provides the most amazing views of the Pyramids. You can book online in advance (make sure you book the correct language), or if you are feeling lucky turn book once you arrive (but you'll still have to do it in advance).

“Excellent Hotel in Cairo”

This hotel was great. I read reviews that the hotel staff was unfriendly, the hotel was not up to par with other Sofitels, etc., but in our experience, everything was great. The hotel staff was super nice and helpful, the service was great, and the rooms were spacious and clean. The location is great as well, with excellent balcony views of the Nile River and the city. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone traveling to Cairo.

Area recommendations
If you're up for a venture into the city, just a short walk over the bridge is a street with tons of stores and shopping. Crossing the streets can be difficult because of traffic, but you get a good experience.

“An Oasis in the middle of Chaos”

We spent 3 days in Cairo to visit the Egyptian Museum, Giza, Saqqara and Memphis before flying off to dive the Red Sea. Cairo was as crazy as all the reviews said, and we chose this hotel because it had been described as a refuge from the chaos of the city. IT IS. From the moment of arrival - after a hectic 2 hours in the airport trying to fill out forms for our missing luggage and haggling over a taxi fare and then being harassed to pay an EXIT FEE from the airport terminal etc. etc. - we arrived at our hotel to find exceptional SERVICE, exceptional ELEGANCE and the best FOOD we had in Cairo (though I must say it has a price tag to match). The concierge was outstanding and helped us so much, as did the business center as we tried for nearly 3 days to get our luggage from AlItalia's Cairo office. The view of the Nile was stunning, and our hotel was a true oasis in a sea of sand, noise, chaos and heat. The pool was OUT of this WORLD. The restaurants were ALL fantastic and we felt so safe and cared for. Will go back to Egypt - SO much to see - and would stay at this hotel anytime we have to go through Cairo. Go 5-star in this city if you can. You will be glad you did.

“Excellent hotel”

Excellent experience at Sofitel Cairo. Services were at very high level, good range of restaurant options, excellent Spa, beautiful swimming pool and very comfortable room. I definitely recommend this hotel. Unfortunately, I cannot say the same about Sofitel Luxor, which is VERY bad (terrible services and horrible rooms). Given this huge difference between two hotels of the same brand I'm NOT likely to book at Sofitel again, cause I don't want to have the poor experience I had with them at Luxor

Area recommendations
I believe Sofitel Cairo is very well located overall. Hilton Cairo which is "next door" to the Egypt Museum maybe a little better location, but Sofitel is a short walk from it.
