“Great Hotel”
We had only spent our last 2 nights at the hotel but during our stay we have found the hotel to be great. The hotel is suitated in a The down fall off this hotel is the Bank ecxhange teller - there is only 1 teller which can get really congested at times and there was no specefic line up. This made it somteimes difficult to determine who was next in line! The buffet was not great - there wasn't much to choose from and most of the food did not look appertizing. Overall, the cleaness of the hotel and rooms were very pleasant and people where nice.
“Lovely Nile views”
We chose this hotel because of the wonderful Nile views and location on the El Gezirah island - and we were not disappointed. The view from our balcony to the Nile on the south and city on the east with Mosque of Muhammed Ali in the Citadel was wonderful, and so beautiful in the bright light of the afternoon and softer morning light. The ventilation was noisy in our room, but when we complained about it after the first night we were right away given a new room higher up and then even better views. And in that room there were no problems with noise. The pool was lovely and the water really warm - but to get a sunlounger you have to be there early enough in the afternoon (before 2 pm) before all the other people come there from the day's sightseeing trips.
“Not a 4 STAR”
Hotel lobby nice, hotel rooms very mediocore, needs new carpeting.
“good”
good hotel
“Slightly disappointed”
The hotel facilities were excellent and there was a general apparent intent to please. Unfortunately this did not extend to the service in the various restarants where the best one can say is that it was rather 'inshallah'. Examples like forgetting to bring the first course until reminded when serving the main course, like reaching right accross in front of one whilst attempting to eat to force the check down on top of a book actually being read at the time, and at other times having to be asked three or more times to bring the check! Not good at all and mars what is otherwise an excellent hotel.
“Hit or Miss”
From the moment you walk into the hotel, service is either at a 5 star level or at a level you would expect at a youth hostel. One staff member will greet you with a smile and a friendly good morning, while another will give you a nasty look and stare you down. The same applies to waiters, doormen, front desk, and concierge. You simply do not know what you are going to get at this property. The check in process was somewhat burdensome and what should have taken 3 minutes, turned into a 15 minute imbroglio in which I was passed from staff member to staff member. This included being forced to sit down at a "special guest" desk. It appeared as though it was a conscious effort to reap as much "baksheesh" as possible. The checkout process was equally as burdensome and took 15 minutes as the front desk performed a full reconciliation of hotel charges (which should ordinarily occur the night prior to checkout). While the hotel was clean with beautiful grounds and restaurants, the service at this property deserves a serious makeover.
“Great Hotel - More Business Suited”
Overall this was a great hotel with really good facilities (pool, restaurants, gym, etc). However our trip was soured by the hotel staff, and the way things were handled. The concierge were not helpful when requesting information on things such as Nile river cruises, light tours etc, and when taxi's were requested we were given taxi's that were significantly higher in cost than the metered ones that you could secure if you only walked 5mins up the road. (I am talking 3-4x the cost of a metered taxi). I am not sure if this is normal practice but it did make us feel uncomfortable about being ripped off. The last thing that concerned us was that the hotel kept doing authorisations on our credit card for 500LE amounts as our bill grew, while this did not specifically worry us as we know authorisations are normal practice, what did concern us was that they never advised us they were doing it. And when we came to pay the bill they charged our credit card with 3 separate transactions for the total bill creating confusion for us as they didn't explain what they were doing until we asked. Having said this the restaurant staff and others we encountered were great.
“Never stay again”
I felt very uncomfortable as some of the hotel staffs were totally not friendly just like they looked down on me. (Worst one was a Concierge.) There were too many staffs at lobby, who had no intention to take care of customer. Maybe it is because I am East Asian. They treated European customers very nicely, while they changed their face once they turned their face to me. This hotel ruined my trip. I need to say they were even rude and arrogant to me. I never recommend and never chose Sofitel again. If you are Japanese or Korean or Chinese or South Asian, I strongly recommend you not to chose this hotel.
“Not a 5 stars at all”
- Staff very confused and lack of communication - Picking up water bottle cap from the floor and trying to put it back on bottle - Laundry service came back during my 1 month stay, always with grease stains, management did nothing about it - If you stay a long time be prepared to eat same food over and over at buffet restaurant
