"hotel in extensive grounds near delightful beach"
This is more like a resort than an hotel. Rooms are in 3 storey blocks in a kilometre of landscaped grounds. There are a lot of rooms but the site is so large that you rarely see many people. you can walk around the site or be driven (by staff) in golf buggies.
Breakfast is simply lovely with an enormous choice and an army of chefs and waiters.
We enjoyed our stay here (again) and will return in the future. I stay regularly in hotels and one thing is apparent here - any variation is possible but you have to pay for it. Nothing is complimentary.
We stayed for 3 nights and though our junior suite was expensive it was large with a great bathroom, air conditioning and a large balcony. Worth every penny.

Hotel from outside looked a bit scruffy, however once inside much better, pool area lovely, walk in pool gradually getting deeper. Rooms very clean and comfortable. Breakfast great, buffet evening meal good, but not enough choice. Location of hotel slightly out of centre, but plenty of restaurants & bars en route. Would recommend

This hotel is in a perfect location! 2 minute walk away from centre of town and restaurants even so no noise is heard when trying to sleep. 5 minute walk away from beach which is stunning with white sands and turquoise sea. Spar literally across the road which is convenient when wanting snacks, drinks or any day to day items which you may have left at home.

I was desperate for a holiday, but slightly dubious about going for it by myself. Now that the holiday is over I'm so glad I went and picked the Melia as my choice of hotel. The grounds aren't large and it's in a busy neighbourhood, but you feel that you're in your own oasis.
Whilst at the Melia the staff were very helpful, and always had a smile on their faces. They organised a trip to the local golf course, which was amazing and definitely worth a visit. I left it too late to get a massage at the spa so can't comment on the spa.
A definite recommendation is to go on a bike trip, the hotel offers bikes for free but if you are going to go anywhere of any distance I would recommend the local bike hire shop around the corner. It cost me 15 Euros to hire a (hybrid) bike for the day, I travelled to Porto Colom. The round trip took about 2.5 hours plus a 2 hour stop I had in Porto Colom where I found this great Tapas bar (Florian) along the harbour edge.

Very good base between two resorts. Head tp porto petro for nice restaurants and marina or cala egos for cocktail bars etc
Visit cala egos hotels to see what you're missing- overcrowded pools, sun beds in short supply and laid out in rows with no space between, no shade and the beaches nearby are vert crowded also
Cala D'or also good and full of places to eat- a bit more upmarket and expensive though
You need to take a taxi from resort to carry shopping though, especially water. The tap water is undrinkable

Two storey apartment in good sized aparthotel. Kitchen was small but good enough for sorting breakfast and light lunches. Supermarket was conveniently next door. Very large and firm bed in large bedroom with en suite bathroom..nice shower over bath with plenty of hot water. The air-conditioning worked well and wasn't noisy. The pool was a good size and when we were there plenty of sunbeds were available although it is only a few minutes walk to a lovely little beach. The hotel staff including housekeeping were very friendly and helpful.

We booked last minute at this hotel as it had a good offer and we could upgrade our room to a suite. The hotel is much larger than what wewould usually stay at and certainly dominated the pretty cove. It is a three star and I feel that it is worthy of this rating. The reception, bars, restaurants and rooms were all clean and furnished adequately, albeit rather dated in areas. We stayed on an all inclusive basis and found the food to be hit and miss, generally the breakfast and lunch was good, fresh and tasty but the evening meal had poor quality meat. I stuck to the fish. I still think it was good value though for what we paid and never went hungry. The pool area was like sardine city and there were insufficient sun beds. The sun beds were one of the most comfortable I have laid on abroad. Entertainment was typical package holiday cheese, but watchable. The hotel had a lift down to the small and cramped sandy beach. It had a small indoor pool, the sauna was out of order. There were tennis courts and mini golf but We didn't use them. Service was friendly and the staff worked hard. We went for three days and one day it rained all day. We found that there was nothing to do in the hotel or in the local area. We were pleased that we upgraded our room to a suite as it had a luxury bed and good size lounge and terrace area.

Six little coves with golden sand and turquoise waters is the raison d’être for Cala d’Or. A modern, multinational low-rise resort in southeast Mallorca, Cala d’Or winds its way around an indented shoreline, punctuated by a series of small marinas. When these beaches get full which in summer is certain head south to the equally beautiful coves at Cala Mondrago, Cala Figuera and Cala Llombards.
