“excellent hotel”

We stayed at Hotel Alga for a week in Oct 2008. Would thoroughly recomend it. October is a quiet time in resort,which is what we were looking for. Hotel staff were extremely helpful. Rooms were good size, not luxurious but were spotlessly clean.Best rooms overlook gardens. Food was excellent, half board was a good choice.....three courses and could be taken as lunch or dinner. Buffet breakfast plentiful. The hotel stands in lovely gardens, has tennis court, two pools, and small play area. About 200metres to the pretty coves and amenities of calella de palafrugell. Excellent value for money, hopefully will go back again.

This hotel far exceeded our expectation - the photos and description don't do this place justice. Superb refurbishment of rooms making them modern and airy. We had a standard room which was incredibly spacious. Aircon is modern allowing various settings such as fan, heat, aircon or dehumidfier. There's a proper coffee machine like a Nespresso/Pod machine in your room - the first two Pods are free thereafter 1 euro each - a great facility and alternative to the instant coffee, kettle etc you usually find at hotels. Good breakfast buffet served till 11am at the weekends which you can take outside by the pool surrounded by the wonderful mature garden settings. We also ate twice in the evening at the hotel (which I rarely ever do) - the set menu of three courses offering a tantalising choice and exceptional value at 20 Euros. Great pool length which is restricted for use from 11am which makes sense as if I had a balcony view, I'd hate to be woken early though I am a early morning length swimmer. There's also a Table-Tennis table and Table Football. Staff are simply brilliant and most tri-lingually excellent - what I heard what Spanish, Catalan, English and French. Finally it's a great location for the nearby beaches and town of Callel de Palafrugell which is five minutes away. In short, for a six night stay - I find it hard to fault this place.

Our first impression was the friendliness of reception. Original room didnt have a balcony so we upgraded to pool view and balcony - Boy was it worth it, woke up looking at boats bobbing in the bay - Perfecto! pool was very cold, but not as cold as the sea. Food was excellent and beautifully presented. the few members of staff we encountered on reception could not have been more helpful and restaurant was a delight.
