More reasonable and affordable alternative!

Posted Oct 20, 2014
Pros: Staff attitute was excellent. Staff was helpful and the room service (first names Sue and Olga) took pride in her work! Well done!
Cons: Complete the construction ASAP, and check the rooms regularly for any malfunctioning equipment. The alarm units for iPod are a bit dated.
Location: On 8th Ave, there are many terrific restaurants.
It is never good news when a conference is booked in downtown Calgary. Prices are inappropriately high. I was attending a conference at a well-known downtown hotel, and even the conference rate was considerably higher than the Expedia rate for the Marriott, which really is only a stonethrow away from the conference venue. As my company has to pay for this conference, I wanted to contain costs. Overall, the stay at the Marriott was a pleasant experience, even though there was a lot of construction going on. Some of the elevators only go to the second floor, and I trust that this will improve once the construction is done. The registration process was fast and efficient, the staff was excellent. The room was quiet, and the noise from the neighbour's use of the bathroom was less obvious than in most hotels. A leaking faucet was a minor issue, and I confess I did not advise the hotel about that. The room was clean, and staff took great pride in cleaning it well every day. I did appreciate the gesture with the personal signature of the room service on the maintenance card every day. The only mistake I made was to eat in the hotel on Saturday night. Hardly any healthy food choices, and the steak that was meant to be medium-rare was well done and left a lot to be desired. Some healthy choices catering to the trend towards the paleo-diet would really be appreciated. Nonetheless, I would return to this hotel.

Great place to stay only problem was had to pay for wifi . Crazy when you can go down the street and get free wifi at Mcdonalds . For the price of a night to stay wifi should be included .

Offer more for the price you charge

Posted Oct 6, 2014
Cons: Shuttle to and from the airport and free wifi.
The hotel is nice enough, but for the price you pay it should include a shuttle from the airport and include wifi for any guests. The bar was low on stock - and I couldn't even get a draft beer.

Beware expedia free breakfast deal

Posted Oct 6, 2014
The Marriott in Calgary is great, and it's about to go through an upgrade. The only problem we had had to do with the Expedia deal that drew us to the hotel. The deal included breakfast (which is great) and wifi, but we learned after one night that although two of us were sharing the king-sized bed, the deal bizarrely included ONE breakfast. Hotel staff said this misunderstanding with Expedia deals is too common. The staff at the hotel were very reasonable in providing two breakfasts, but whatever the fine print on the Expedia deal may have said about free breakfast, people should beware that common sense might not prevail. Renting a hotel room for two people should always include two of whatever the deal offers, including obviously, breakfast. If the Marriottt, itself, caused the confusion by what it offered Expedia, then it should make everyone's life easier and make it clear that two breakfasts for two people should be automatic.

Road Trip

Posted Oct 1, 2014
Pros: The location, the staff and the comfort of the room
Cons: Free Wifi in the rooms. Only hotel we stayed in where they charged. Even the lower end Motels had free wifi. Marriot only free in the lobby!
Location: Hotel location was extremely good and the visit up the Calgary Tower is definitely worth it.
Calgary was our last stop after a road trip that took us from Vancouver to Jasper, Banff then Calgary. We arrived at the hotel late afternoon and the concierge greeted us and let us know about the parking. We were then checked in by a very friendly lady at front of house who also gave us a bottle of water. Our room was lovely and overlooked the Calgary Tower and was in a good location in Downtown Calgary. It was very peaceful at night and we got a couple of good nights sleep before flying home.

2 night stay

Posted Sep 30, 2014
The room was nice, quiet. The restaurant/bar is small, and the bar was poorly stocked, due to impending renovations to the whole hotel (according to the bar tender). The location was perfect for the activities we had planned for the weekend, i.e. theatre and Calgary Tower. We parked our vehicle across the street in public parking for $10/day.

Accommodating staff

Posted Sep 30, 2014
Pros: The service
Cons: Update the inside appearance...worn carpets...painting..
The first room we had faced Stephen Ave and it was exceptionally noisy due to it being a Friday and a block party. I requested to be moved to the other side of the hotel, which was promptly done with no hassle. The other thing that was fantastic was the 10km runners' map. I enjoyed the trail tremendously and was impressed how well it was laid out.
