Cheap and cheerful

Posted Aug 17, 2014
Pros: Location, housekeeping staff (Tracy was a sweetie). Clean. Pool. Comfy beds - Beautyrest.
Cons: Air conditioning.
Location: Pub, restaurants nearby, on Hwy 1, but it is just a regular street at this point, so not overly loud or busy. Downtown in 6 min. Banff in an hour.
Great location, minutes to downtown, right on Hwy 1. Not a high end hotel, but did not expect it. Functional, clean. A/C had problems - small window A/C's over the door - first one leaked all over us as we exited or entered room, then changed room and A/C didn't work at all. Pleasant outdoor pool. Breakfast included, but no belgian waffles here - but did have coffee,Twinings tea, fresh muffins, croissants, cold cereal, fresh fruit, juice - again, functional, not flash.

Perfect place to stop-over.

Posted Jul 23, 2014
Pros: The staff, the quiet, the convenience, the value
Location: The location is good if you are driving through town.
The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. The first room we went to smelt like cleaning products very strongly but when we complained we were immediately moved. The beds were comfortable, and the room was clean and quiet. The breakfast was simple but very convenient.

Great location

Posted Jul 20, 2014
Pros: Location
Cons: Quieter air conditioner. Larger steps going up and down the stairs to the 2nd floor.
Location: We attended the Calgary Stampede and drove to Banff for a day.
We stayed at the Calgary North Thriftylodge when we recently attended the Calgary Stampede. The location was perfect for using the rail system to go to and from the event. The room was clean and the beds comfortable. The air conditioner was terribly loud but kept the room comfortable.

'Thrift' - Lodge but not basic

Posted Jul 14, 2014
Pros: See above. All basic facilities were there and the sofa was a bonus.
Cons: A towel rail near the basin.
Location: Close to the tram station for easy transfer to the city centre. Tipperary pub was good. We only had one night's stay so can add nothig extra.
We expected something pretty basic as it was at the cheaper end of the market and the name gave a clue! In fact we were agreeably suprised: 2 chairs plus sofa, good shower, plenty of towels and an ice machine nearby; not the 'Ritz', but fine. Some residents were a little noisy but nothing to complain about and, in any case, that was not the management's fault. Thoroughly recommended.

The rooms were clean but not kept up to date.

The front staff were accommodating. I needed a ground floor entrance because of a medical condition and I did show up early and they arranged the booking to suit my needs. The rooms were suitable for our needs.

Cheap hotel near restaurants and public transport.

Posted Jul 9, 2014
Pros: I had plenty of towels.
Cons: Repairs!!!
Location: The motel is located in Motel Village. Within the village are also great restaurants. It's within walking distance to the train, a mall and a stadium.
I usually don't complain but...The telephone and TV remote wouldn't work. I asked to have the remote fixed but it was never done. How hard is it to replace the batteries?! The sink plug and window lock were broken. The fridge had no freezer compartment. I had to stand on a chair to turn the air conditioner on! I was there for two nights and there was no room service; that's probably why I was given plenty of towels. The room was clean enough but in terrible disrepair. It was disgusting!
