Property Amenities
The original downtown centre of Calgary was located 10 blocks to the east of The Fairmont Palliser. The completion of the Edwardian commercial-style luxury hotel in 1914 resulted in the downtown core being relocated around The Palliser. These stores and shops were established on what is now historic Stephen Avenue Walk. In keeping with the sandstone construction of The Fairmont Palliser, Stephen Avenue Walk buildings are also made of sandstone. Stephen Avenue Walk is a vibrant centre of downtown life, home to 350 shops and 35 restaurants and pubs. The theatre district anchors the east end of this five-block cobblestone pedestrian walk. There are ten nightclubs within blocks of the hotel, giving guests the choice of dance, rock, country or jazz music. Most nightclubs offer live music on the weekends.
The Fairmont Palliser is also located next to another city landmark; The Calgary Tower—complete with observation lounge and revolving Panorama room restaurant. Also nearby, the Calgary Zoo is the 10th largest in North America and offers a diverse activities for families on the weekends (the Calgary Zoo is five minutes by car or ten minutes by Public Light Rail Transit/LRT).

“Calgary's best hotel”
This hotel has the long legend, so the building looks older. However I didn't feel discomfort. Each amenity is very good and the space of rooms is large enough. The quality of furniture in rooms is high level.
“Terrific Spot”
Fairmont Palliser was a high quality stay for a very reasonable price.
“Classic in Calgary”
Got a great rate, so decided to stay here our last night before flying home. Overall a nice hotel, service in Rimrock room started slow.....did get better. Disappointed that on a Saturday night NO entertainment.
“Possibly Calgary's Best”
I cannot recommend this hotel enough. I was in Calgary on business for a day and had been told by locals that this was THE hotel I should pick. Indeed, it was a wonderful experience. My room was spacious, beautifully decorated with a closet that was more like a dressing room and a nice marble bathroom. I came to regret that I did not have more time to spend at the Palliser! I will definitely stay there again when I need to return to that city.
“Comfortable Room, but needed earplugs”
Room was comfortably furnished and spacious. Our only complaint was that a large wedding reception was being held in the ballroom directly below our room, with a loud band playing live music until 1am in the morning. Several calls to the front desk resulted in no satisfactory response or apology
“Not going back”
Tired!! Service was poor.
“Not up to par for a Fairmont”
The hotel was "nice", although not up to the usual Fairmont property standards. The location was great and the room was comfortable. The staff's customer service was not what I would expect for a Fairmont hotel.
“pallser location great”
hotel was in a great location...can't get any closer to calgary tower!
“Ask for a room away from elevators”
We live in the Calgary area and stayed in the Palliser on New Year's Eve so we didn't have to drive home after an evening at Ruth's Chris Steak House. This is a beautiful old hotel with many great amenities. The room was very comfortable and clean. The beds and bedding were great quality, but the pillows were a little too big and fluffy for a side sleeper. Make sure to request a room away from the elevators. This is an old building, and the elevators make a lot of noise that comes right through the walls -- it was actually quite disturbing (although once everyone was in for the night it was quiet). If we had planned on staying more than one night, I would have asked for another room.
“Good but Beware the rooms overlooking the Railway line.”
Staff were great, rooms were lovely, in the grand old hotel tradition, with one VERY loud problem. As you may now, the Fairmont Canadian hotels were built as stops on the Trans-Canadian railways. This means there's a railway line somewhere quite close to all of them. In the Palliser's case however, there's a railway line DIRECTLY at the rear of the hotel and trains are active on it all night! The noise is very loud, enough to rattle the window frames at 2am. And 5am and 6am. You get the picture. After the first train rumbled by at 10:30pm we asked to change rooms and in fairness, we were offered different ones but it took until 11:30pm. By that time after a 9.5 hour flight to get there we were too exhausted to re-pack and move rooms so instead put up with it. So, a grand hotel, nice staff, just be sure NOT to book one of the rooms, overlooking the railway line. The rest are fine I gather.
