“Great hotel in Bayeux”

This is an "old world" styled hotel, heavy on the charm. Great location in the middle of Bayeux within easy walking distance of restaurants, shopping, tour meeting locations, cathedral, etc. Our room was nice and spacious by european standards with a lot of unique charm. Hotel staff very pleasant and spoke English. Nice breakfast although not included in the room price. There was limited parking available at an extra charge, that would be the only "minus" I would give this hotel. Seems like the parking should be included in the guest rate, even if it's first come, first serve. Overall, a great hotel which I would highly recommend.

“Great hotel with very helpful staff”

This hotel was an excellent location for visiting the Normandy beaches and WW2 cemeteries. Staff at the hotel were extremley friendly, even though their english was not great (much better than our french though) we managed to have all our needs meet and understood. Would definitely stay at this hotel again.

“Perfect location for D-Day Tours”

I chose Le Lion d'Or based on the recommendation in Rick Steves France 2010 Travel Guide and I was not disappointed. It is a beautiful, very French hotel, and the staff treated me like family. The room was nice, very quaint, quite spacious and very comfortable. The front desk arranged travel and tours for me. The restaurant is wonderful, many locals eat here, I chose the "daily special" courses every time and I was very pleased. The food was simple, fresh, and wonderfully presented. The front desk staff and restaurant servers were especially friendly and very capable. The only negative was the lack of a lift in this 3 storey building. I will stay here again and would recommend the hotel to anyone who is seeking an authentic French lodging and dining experience.

“Perfect location to explore the Region”

This is a great hotel in perfect location, especially if you have a car. The place is obviously old with great charm, but the rooms were very clean with a comfortable bed and nice shower. You're right in town so you can easily explore Bayeux and if you have a car as we did, you have easy and beautiful drives from the beaches and other great locations. Every staff member we encountered was great.

“Would definitely stay here again!”

Staying at this hotel was like stepping back into time, in a good way. I highly recommend it to anyone who wants a hotel experience much like General Eisenhower must have had during WWII. We chose this hotel because it was a short drive from Omaha Beach and other iconic D-Day sites. If (hopefully when) we go back to visit the Normandy beaches, we will stay at this hotel again.

“Great location”

A nice hotel well located in the centre of town, only minutes away from the Bayeux Tapestry. Plenty of cafes and bakeries close by. Our room was smallish but normal for European hotels, with a great bathroom. The beds were a little soft but comfortable. The room was on the first floor and there was no lift, just stairs. Staff were very helpful and there is free internet located in a phone box in the reception area. We breakfasted at a cafe across the road and found it delightful. We had a brilliant D-Day tour with BattleBus. Very professional and so knowledgeable.

“Excellent D DAY Beach Venue, Hotel with True character”

A truely wonderful place to stay. Te ambience, the quality, the location, the staff, the food etc etc Located in a lovely and famous French town, steeped in history, the location is excellent for doing the D Day history. All are within easy reach. The hotel itself "bowled" us over with it's character and comfort. The food was 1st class, absoluetely, the staff very friendly, it made you relax. The open log fire was the finishing touch, in a large "lounge" area (with a bar!) surrounded by fantastic photos off all the star whom have stayed there BRILLIANT!

“Great hotel in a quaint village”

The hotel is quaint, It was President Eisenhower's favorite in Normandy, and I can see why. The rooms were comfortable and clean, and the bathroom was huge by European standards. The city is quaint itself, and the hotel is secure behind a security gate. The staff spoke English very well, and were not only courteous, but very enjoyable to talk to as well. The bed was comfortable. Locationwise the hotel is 10 minutes from the train station, close to the beautiful cathedral and famous tapestry, and has some great restraunts and pastry shop down the street, There are many DDay tours that can pick you up from this hotel if you arrange to do so.
