“GRAN Dawson”

This is an attractive hotel (part Victorian house and part new build in a horse shoe shape at the rear of the original building). The key issue here is whether you want to be in the city centre or if you are prepared to walk the 1 mile (or get the bus £1.35 one way/taxi £6) into the centre. You can of course drive - but the roads are busy and I understand car parking to be expensive. The up side is that the location has excellent access from the west (A14) and is easy to exit back to the main routes. Room rates are also significantly better than the city centre (well at least on our excellent deal). If you are happy with that compromise then this hotel is ideal. It is modern, clean and well maintained. Staff are friendly and have a bible of places to eat (the hotel has a good restaurant). The hotel also offers free parking (some others charge). Breakfast is continental although a supplement gets you cooked breakfast. Breakfast selection is good rather than great - but there is fresh fruit salad, cereal, toast and there are nice touches with leaf tea and cafeterias of coffee. There is also tea and coffee making facilities in the rooms. The rooms are a little dark (because of window blinds - but you can lift them) with brown hues and pastels. The bathroom was excellent with bath and separate shower and nicely tiled in Italian look marble-look ceramic tiles. We would definitely visit again if travelling that way.

I am a very frequent traveller as part of my job staying in 4* hotels often. I have to say that this hotel is better than many many 4* hotels!! Service is amazing! Rooms beautiful, hotel very new looking and relaxing... Don't hesitate this hotel rocks!
