“Excellent, friendly welcome and service”

This guest house has recently changed hands and the new owners are anxious that this is known! They are working hard to renovate and update the rooms and facilities - to excellent effect. The room decor is fresh and modern - and of high quality. The parking permit was a boon, give it a try you won't be disappointed!

“Friendly staff”

The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Breakfast was great with enough protein. Hotel a short walking distance from the center of town and train station. Bathrooms are shared. (One was newly remodeled; the other needed some work.) There is a pub next door so it can get very noisy. I didn't have any problems sleeping though since I was very tired. Overall a good choice.

“Comfortable”

A very comfortable place to stay. It would be nicer if breakfast was served a little longer, and if check out was later too - 10:30 is very early, and they are strict about it.

“Convenient city location, and a comfortable stay”

A word of warning first - read the email that Regency House send you. The reception may not always be open, and the instructions provided are essential. My stay was over Christmas so some of the experiences were unusual, such as the self service breakfast on Christmas morning. This was managed very well. The hotel was not full on the days that I stayed, so service when provided (all other days) was friendly and helpful. Having previously lived and worked within a 5 minutes walk of the location, I had no tourist requirements. This may be a disadvantage for others, as the local knowledge of the staff that I met was minimal. This would only be slight though, as information was provided to help. The pinted guide in the rooms would be useful. A Tourist Information office is only a few minutes walk away. Regency House overlooks one of the may open green spaces in the city. This would provide a lovely view if you are lucky enough to get a facing room. Mine did not, looking out onto the back yard. Not the best view, but not a problem. In the room, that had en suite facilities, the room was comfortably heated, and tea/coffee facilities were available. Hopefully a new kettle will replace the worn out, but useable one in my room. Would I stay there again? Yes.

“Great Stay at Regency”

My sister & I stayed a night at the Regency Guest House last weekend and really enjoyed our stay. The room was clean, fresh & warm (my only complaint would be the shower pressure could have been better). Breakfast was a continental type deal and had everything we needed. Location-wise it was an easy walk to all the sights we wanted to see.

“A convenient spot”

A great location, close to station and town. The room was very clean, but small and a bit highly perfumed for my liking. There were no staff when I arrived and I couldn't get my TV to work, and there was no one to ask. The breakfast window 8-9am was a little tight and I nearly missed it. But overall a pleasing stay. It was good to be able to leave luggage ther to collect late in the day. I left something behind, and they have been very obliging about forwarding it on.

“over night stay”

The hotel let me check in early, which was great and meant I didn't have to walk around with my bag. I was there with my daughter who had an interview, she staid in uni halls. The room was clean and was en suite which was great, the shower was lovely. My only problem was that night I was so cold I could see my breathe, I was freezing; I got up about midnight and went looking to see if there was anyway I could get some heat, only to realize the heater in the room had not been switched on. After getting the heating working I was lovely and warm. Also the tv in the room emits a constant buzzing when switched on, so I turned it off. I did not have breakfast as I had to leave at 7.30am to get to my daughter. The hotel location is great, close to most colleges. I would stay there again.

“Renovations still in progress; would wait to see results”

Was led to believe that renovations were completed but, in fact, major construction was ongoing during the visit. I have no doubt this will one day be a decent B&B in the heart of Cambridge but needs another several months. A follow-up parking permit request was also poorly handled (i.e. lost) bringing into question the staff's organisation. However, continental breakfast was lovely.

“Disappointing”

The shower and toilet are not in the room and are not always clean. Also the water comes out slow and temprature is hard to control, and there are no soaps or shampoos to be found. Sink in room was very slow. Very strong odor of disinfectant everywhere, from sheets to bathroom.

“Great location, shame about the service”

Not at all what I exected from a Cambridge guest house. Owners/managers made no effort to get to know us-indeed they hardly bothered speaking to us! The rooms were small, cramped and in need of redecoration. Not good value for just under 70 quid.
