Parts of the hotel may have seen better days but the staff are great and the location is very convenient.

I liked this hotel. I felt it must have been well-managed because the staff were professional, un-harried, and gave a sense of ease and courtesy. I had one small issue that was resolved very well. As I had asked for an especially quiet room, I was initially given one in the 400-block, which is a great location in the back, away from any street noise whatsoever, but the WIFI reception was inadequate in the room. So I was immediately moved to the main wing, second floor, and that room was quiet as well, as it faced back towards the parking, away from the street. The hotel's location is ideal for visiting the center of Cambridge and the university. The decor was fine, WIFI was fine, bathroom fine... things were just fine :) Nothing opulent but nothing shabby or faded glory. I would definitely stay there again.

“Nice hotel in a Perfect location”

This was my second stay at this hotel. It's location is excellent with respect to the University's various colleges. My room was quiet and clean. Not a remarkable place, but quite comfortable. I will likely choose it for next time I am back to Cambridge,

“OK value, but less than regal”

I chose this hotel as it was one of the lower priced options close to the centre of Cambridge - within a reasonable walk from the railway station and the city centre. The room had seem better days, the holes in the carpet were the most noticeable thing. However the room were and bathroom were clean and the bed comfortable. It did face the road, which is busy until 11pm or so and from 6am in the morning so would not suit a light sleeper. Had a couple of meals in the restaurant, these were OK and not too pricey. The staff were efficient, but hard to find in the bar/restaurant in the evening. Overall it did the job without breaking the bank.

“A Big Surprise”

The lift was not operating. I think they should have had staff to help with luggage up the stairs. Other than that, the room (facing the street) was quiet and comfortable. The bar and other areas were nicely appointed. The Royal Cambridge is in a terrific location--just one block from the Fitzwilliam and close to most colleges. Based on other reviews I was prepared to be disappointed but instead was more than satisfied and would stay there again.

“Felt like a "typical" 3-star London hotel”

The staff were all helpful and professional. They are attentive to your needs. However, the interior--and especially the insides of the rooms--seemed like a "typical" 3-star London hotel.

“Perfectly OK hotel for a short stay”

Nothing special, a bit tired and characterless, but clean and friendly with adequate rooms and a pleasant location (if a bit noisy if in a room at the front). Would stay there again if for one night but for a longer stay would probably choose somewhere more luxurious or interesting. Slightly over-priced, especially as breakfast not included, but I guess that's rip-off Cambridge for you!

“Cambridge jewel”

had a problem with basement room. it had heating/steam pipes in the roof and it was like a sauna in room, no matter that no heat was on. air conditioning didnt work complained and they moved us n 2nd night to a different room, which was fine.

“A pleasant experience”

A fairly typical English hotel - aging elegance. Our room was larg and convenient. The servicing of the room was good. We at in the hotel only forbreakfast and the continental breakfast was more than adequate. Because of the location of the hotel was good it respect to the centre of Cambridge, we walked whenever possible. Overall, a pleasant experience and we would certainly stay there again.
