“Would go back if I could.”
Brilliant Inn, location just of the highway is convenient and not at all noisy. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the rooms superb. Fantastic food and drink in the restaurant, and breakfast was great too. To top it all, we got up earl for a beautiful sunrise before heading up to Mt Desert Island. Avoid the Interstate for a pretty and scenic drive.
“nice & friendly inn”
I actually arrived late at this inn but there was no problem checking in, all you had to do was call them once you had arrived. The owner or whoever checked me in was wicked nice. He gave me a room in the back of the inn with a wonderful view of the bay. The room was really clean & very well maintained. A few concerns I had was that the bed wasn't that comfy, the alarm clock kept making a buzzing noise so I had to unplug it, & you could hear the footsteps from the people staying upstairs. Other than that the inn was fantastic, it could use a little renovating but it was pleasant.
“Excellent”
Lovely place with staff that really cares. If I ever have reason to return to Belfast, this is where I will stay.
“Another good reason to visit Belfast”
If you like a room with a B&B feel to it (in a good way) they have rooms in the main house (low-numbered rooms); if you like something more modern there is the new building (higher numbers). They're very serious about doing everything they can to help your stay go smoothly.Warm breakfast included. Couldn't ask for friendlier staff and owners. This was my third stay (including once in the dead of winter) and never a hitch -- and always a warm welcome.
“Great experience!”
We stayed there for a few days in late May. The Inn is a cozy 14 rooms in a separate building that was, back in the day, a barn built with post-and beam construction. There are no traces of barn-ness remaining, except insofar as the solidity of the construction made this one of the quietest places we have ever stayed. We were on the side of the building facing the bay and so had the better view, but the Inn is on a pleasant isolated wooded lot, so there is a pleasant view in all directions. The owners are personally involved in the operation and you could not wish for nicer hosts. The included breakfast during our stay was a platter: eggs, french toast, bacon/sausage, and so forth. Good hearty fare -- I felt ready to go out and haul lobster traps, though my actual activities were not quite so active. They were flexible about the details: sometimes we asked for no eggs and meat, but extra french toast. Over the weekend we noticed some local people having breakfast there as well (they turned out to be the bookstore owners in town) and my experience is that Belfasters don't give business to people who aren't nice. One tip: Once or twice I needed to use the Internet; the wireless service turns out to be better on the non-bay side of the building OR in their main building (where their office and restaurant is, and you are certainly welcome to hang out there with your laptop.)
“Penobscot Bay Inn - Good value for the price. Would stay again.”
Staff were helpful and friendly. Room was clean and well maintained. Excellent freshly cooked breakfast (eggs, bacon, hash browns and pancake). Good value for the price. 1.5 hours to Acadia NP; 0.5 hours to Camden. Good base to see the Maine coast. Off peak mid-week stay with only had a few guests around, so was given free upgrade to bayview room. Only small complaint would be when I arrived had to call number posted on door as no one around, even though information provided stated check-in between 2pm-7pm and I arrived at 5pm. Probably due to so few reservations at time I stayed. Had to go and find pay phone - minor inconvenience. Restaurant had great food, reasonably priced for the quality, but couldn't afford it every night.
“Fine facliity, better breakfast”
We were pleased with our stay here. The room was clean and neat with minimal noise. Check-in was easy even though we arrived late. The highlight was breakfast which was served in a sunny room with a delightful view of the ocean. The meal was served promptly and to our order. The rate was very reasonable, although we were in the off-season. We would definitely stay here again.
“Best Place to Stay in Belfast.”
The hotel was very nice. The staff was friendly and went out of their way to make us feel welcome. The breakfast is fantastic, we got the complementary breakfast and it's a choice of something sweet or something savory, made to order on the spot. Much better then the normal free breakfast we get at say Hilton. The staff also had helpful ideas of what to do and where to eat.
“Clean, comfortable & easy access to Route 1 & Maine's coastal towns”
We enjoyed a 4 day, 3 night stay at Penobscot Bay Inn in Room 5. The inn is conveniently located on Route 1 about 2 miles outside Belfast. It is easy access on and off Route 1, which makes it convenient to visit the other regional towns of Camden, Rockland and all towns in between. The rooms were clean and comfortable. We stayed in the main house and our room had a private bathroom. The room was a nice size, but the shower stall is very tight. I would not recommend staying in Room 5 if you are big and tall. My boyfriend is 6'2, 280 and he couldn't turn in the shower. When making a reservation, ask how big the shower stall is, other rooms may have a bigger bathroom. The staff is very welcoming and accomodating and the breakfasts were satisfying. I highly recommend.
“Would love to go back.”
Wish we could of stayed longer. The room was toasty warm and they had turned the light on for us. Very well maintanined property. It included a hot breakfast that was delicious. Friendly owners. I would recommend anyone who's looking for a nice vacation to go there!
