“Beautiful Secluded Hotel”

El Sabanero is a wonderful hotel. If you are choosing to drive, it is a little hard to find from the main road. It is located behind a horse ranch. I would recommend it to couples or singles looking to relax and don't mind seclusion. There is no beach access and there are no stores or shops located near the hotel. In order to visit the beach or shops you will have to pay $40.00 round trip to take a taxi into the nearby town of Tamarindo. My friend and I went scheduled this vacation together and we cancelled our reservation at El Sabanero and stayed in Tamarindo. Tamarindo is a surfer town that has everything you could think of including a supermarket and disco. Come prepared to spend as I found basic things like food and water to be expensive. We spent a minimum of $20 per person per meal everyday during our stay. Overall, El Sabanero is beautiful and I cant wait to return on a future trip to Costa Rica with my husband.

“Perfection!”

The owner and manager are both very nice and helpful. The cabins are clean and comfortable. We wanted a relaxing vacation, and could not have selected a better spot! Reading on the porch of the cabin while listening to the sounds of nature was absolutely perfect.

Rooms are basic, but clean. common area, grounds and pool are simply delightful. staff is friendly and very helpful - made us feel at home. food is good and prices are reasonable. road into Tamarindo is bumpy. you need to bring soap/shampoo.

Beautiful grounds and a great pool with a view of the mountains. Great accommodations to just sit back on your private porch, enjoy the tropical breeze and observe nature. Then staff is very helpful and are more than happy to help with details or arrange adventure tours. This is a great location to venture out from with many different things to visit and see within a short drive. The restaurant has great food and will cook to your taste if you give them a little advance notice on what you would like (within reason of course). Overall we couldn't have asked for a better place for our vacation!

“Outstanding Care & Service”

We chose this hotel as it was off the usual tourist trail, small and had excellent reviews on other review websites. We were not dissappointed. From start to finish we were exceptionally well looked after. The hotel is run by a couple who part own the hotel, so have a vested interest in making sure you have the best stay possible. From arranging the hotel transfer, recommending and arranging trips to removing the odd tree frog from our room, they could not have been more accomodating. Whilst we travelled as a four, due to the size of the hotel and its informal nature, we frequently socialsed with the other guests and made some new friends in the process. The other hotel staff are also excellent - friendly and can't do enough for you. The rooms are cleaned daily with fresh towels for the room & the pool. The hotel gardens are well maintained - you might even spot the odd monkey swinging in the trees surrounding the hotel. If you are looking for a big, all-inclusive hotel, where you do not leave the complex and you are simply 'just another guest', this is not the place for you. If you are looking for an exceptionally well run, friendly, informal place to to stay and enjoy exploring the country around you, this is the perfect spot. To fully appreciate the local wildlife & unspolit beaches, I would recommend hiring a car - the owners even went with us to pick it up! Overall we had an excellent time and would thoroughly recommend El Sabanero!

“Peaceful Costa Rica”

El Sabanero is a great way to experience the peace and nature of the Pacific side of Costa Rica....no telephone or TV in the cabins and a nice porch to sit and listen to the sounds of Canafistula Valley...the hospitality is wonderful. The manager, Donald, is great fun and can arrange almost anything you would like to do. We definitely recommend them!!

“great, non-touristy, Costa Rican getaway”

what an incredible getaway! beautiful surroundings, great staff, good breakfast, cooked to order dinner... that said, you must be prepared for less is more, no TV, no phone in the room, internet in the common area only. decent drive down a gravel road to get there, (not any worse, and far better than many of the other roads we traveled). We'd go back in a heartbeat
