Located only two minutes walk from Oberkampf Metro stop, and walking distance from Republic, this hotel lies in a very French neighborhood that accommodates tourists but isn't "touristy," per se. A waiter at a Left Bank brasserie told me it was a great neighborhood now, but not a place one would have chosen for a stay even 10 years ago. While no Soho, or maybe even a Tribecca, it certainly equates to an East Village NYC feel. Lots of energy, bars and restaurants. Not, at age 62, all my cup of tea, but still fun to experience. All safe and clean. And, special touches like the block(s) long farmers' (and more) market that ran on Friday followed by a two day flea market that ran on the weekend right outside the front door. Really good local dining. For the younger crowd, some well attended clubs and music venues. It was a nice change of pace from my typical stay in St. Germaine du Pres. Finally, the hotel itself was very comfortable with a great breakfast and a very accommodating staff.

"Nice hotel 1 block from train station and Metro."
The hotel was reasonably priced and one block from the train station, Metro subway and major bus stop so an easy walk to access any part of Paris. Our train arrived early and before the hotel check in time but the staff was very pleasant and stored our luggage so we could begin exploring the city. When we returned the room we were assigned was clean, comfy, had a nice bathroom, a thermostat that actually worked and louvers that you could lower over the window that faced a busy street that blocked out the noise and light. We had a very good nights sleep in comfy bed with fluffy pillows, unlike several other hotels we stayed at in Europe on our two week vacation.
