“Great stay in Canberra”

For the price, it was excellent, considering it included a sumptious buffet breakfast. The staff were great and the hotel was very central to the city, I could walk to the shops. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at the Rex.

“Rex - Renos”

Nice place just need to remember they are going under renovations so there is some noise and obstacles around, sometimes difficult to find a parking space.

“Happy”

After reading some of the reviews I was a bit apprehensive but was pleasantly surprised.I think some people expect champagne for beer money. We only stayed one night but would definitely stay there again

“Canberra Rex”

No exhaust ventilation in bathroom, made room stuffy and steamy. Room needs massive upgrade. Ant maintenance undertaken cheaply and to a poor standard; very amateurish.

“Value for money”

Having read some negative reviews, we booked in the knowledge it would be very ordinary, so were not disappointed. The hotel does not all claim to be four star, and it's not. Staff were friendly and accommodating. Bed was very comfortable, linen clean and room quite spacious. Would have liked a small desk. The adjacent construction site would be a problem for anyone wanting to sleep in but it was no problem as we were there at the weekend. The rooms, furniture, carpet etc are all in need of upgrade, the bathroom tiny and the shower head only high enough for shorties like us.The hot breakfast was a tad disappointing, the worst eggs I've ever seen, at least they were uniformly mangled. That said, there was plenty of other food to choose from. Overall, it was value for money because one would have to pay considerably more to get a higher standard. I would probably go again since we only used the room as somewhere to lay our weary touristy heads on.

“Old Rex”

The staff were fantastic and very friendly. The rooms were dated, but clean. The breakfast buffet was beautiful. This was no 5 star hotel ,but for us it was an unexpected visit for an emergency and so it suited us brilliantly.

“Great Food”

Rooms were old and the hotel is in need of refurbishment. The breakfast was one of the best breakfasts I have had in any hotel, well done for that.

“Good Value”

Good value, overall with a great breakfast. Only drawbacks were the lack of parking on the premises ( had to go to another site across the road) and the wait time to be seated for breakfast ( which was aboiut 10 minutes).

“Worst 3 star hotel”

The hotel is very expensive for the poor quality of the services provided. On our first night, we were initially given a 'non-smoking room' but the room smelled of smoke, as if someone just smoked a pack of cigarettes in the room before we moved in. the room was very dark and the carpet looked yucky. We complained and luckily got transferred to a real non smoking room. I have stayed in private rooms with ensuite at backpacker's and their standards are way better than this 3.5 star rated hotel. The only plus for this hotel is the included breakfast buffet

“Sadly, the Rex isn't as regal as it sounds...”

The Rex is a very tired hotel- serious refurbishment is needed. I got the impression building works on land next to the hotel were underway and expansion is in the future. There was a lot of hessian sheeting in the dining area. Perhaps the old Rex will relocate to the new site and work can then be done to the existing building. Staff are professional and working under trying conditions. The cleanliness of the room, in particular the bathroom, was less than optimal: - hair all over the floor - stains on the benches which I wiped up - red mould around the shower head, plug hole and tiles - shower head broken - veneer on the door chipped and peeling; looked like a result of significant water damage over time On a bright note, the bed was comfy and the sheets were clean. The Rex is well positioned for a run into the 'city'- Canberra's city planning can be a challenge at the best of times! Basically, the Rex served a purpose for one night.
