Exceptional staff at The Mercure

Posted Aug 19, 2014
Location: Very central and easy to walk to the shopping centre
As a solo female traveller I was made to feel very welcome at the hotel. The staff were all friendly and when I was settled waiting for a lift to the airport, a member of the kitchen team asked me if I would like a cup of tea! Also, when I wanted to meet my son for a coffee early in the morning, I was told we could have coffee from the breakfast room. I am sure some other hotels may have tried to sell you an expensive cup. My only very small criticism was the music in the mornings wasn't to my taste - I prefer something a little more uplifting, but that's just me. Thanks for a great stay, I will definitely return.

excellent location, in the middle of the city

Posted Jul 28, 2014
Pros: Just don't like the pillows and the way they do their quilt, no quilt cover just in between 2 flat sheets. Not so comfy tha
Cons: A proper quilt cover will help, maybe.
Nothing extraordinary as we were out all day. A WHINGE I booked 2 rooms at the same time more than a month before but the rooms were far apart.

Pleasant place to stay

Posted Jul 22, 2014
Pleasant hotel with nice atmosphere. My only real criticism is the gym- it is tiny with barely room for one person. It seems to only be present for the hotel to be able to claim it has one. The hotel is well situated being only a ten minute walk from the major shopping centre in town.

Mercure Inn, Braddon, Canberra

Posted Jul 20, 2014
Pros: Close location to city and tourist sights.
Cons: The bathroom.
Location: National War Memorial & Museum, Parliament, Australian National University, Town Shopping, Lake Burley Griffen, National Library and many more
The room was large and comfortable, the bathroom a bit small, but overall a great hotel and location easy walking distance to all the major museums, city, parliament and attractions. The staff were great, the restaurant, bistro and morning coffee bar all well used during out stay, there was a quiz night on the Thursday night in the sportsman bar and all the locals very friendly and helpful.

A Hotel with Character

Posted Jul 6, 2014
Pros: We loved the hotel's character and location
Cons: The room had a small fridge, but it was so jam-packed with purchasable mini-bar items that we couldn't fit our own few supplies in.
Location: See the Australian War Memorial and Parliament House, view the city from Mt Ainslie.
We stayed for 2 nights in Canberra, primarily to visit the Australian War Memorial, and chose the Mercure Canberra as it was located within easy walking distance of this site. We were not disappointed - in fact, we were very pleasantly surprised, particularly given the generous room rate we paid. Unlike most hotels, the Mercure is not a tall brick and glass monolith, but a building with character and a history dating back to the birth of Canberra itself. You can even read about it in the coffee table book they provide in the room. In the foyer you will find armchairs around a fireplace, and an old world charm that brings to mind times of greater elegance. The rooms themselves are modern, though the occasional creaking wooden floorboards beneath the carpets remind you that this building relied more on carpentry than cement laying in its construction. We were further pleased to discover that the Mercure Canberra is only a short walk to the central shopping centre of the city, and a very short drive to both the Mt Ainslie Lookout, definitely worth the trip, and Parliament House as well.

Large hotel in central location

Posted Jun 22, 2014
Cons: WIFI should be available in the hotel for free or for a lower fee. Overall, the hotel could benefit from some TLC.
Very friendly staff, plenty of parking. Best to book breakfast the night before for 18AUSD.
