“Weekend in Canberra Rydges Lakeview”

Although i had booked a twin room 5 weeks in advance it was fitted with a King bed on arrival. This could not be modified to 2 singles as requested as the staff had 'gone home' and a roll out bed was brought to the room. I was offered the chance to possibly move in the morning but their was no further communication over the entire weekend. I discovered myself the bed was merely attached with a velcro strap and could easily be separated into a twin setup except for the sheets. Overall the reception staff didn't offer much in the way of service or compensation. The room was freshly renovated and looked fine but the bathroom ventilation was poor resulting in fogged mirrors instantly. A few more hanging hooks on the closet doors would help also. For the price I would have expected hot chocolate sachets along with the usual tea and coffee and perhaps a sweet biscuit or two in the room. Overall the new renovation inside looked fresh and bright while the dowdy exterior remains.

“It has been a pleasant stay except....”

We are rather pleased with the hotel , except for one incident where one of the staff ,first name starting with L was not particularly helpful . We wanted to internet check in our flight and there was some technical issues with the airline check in system.She told us we have to call ourselves , using the hotel phone, whilst she stood and watch us doing it. It will be wonderful if she could assist us beyond the level of service , by doing it for us , as we have to wait for the system to be refreshed , which took a couple of hours before we can check in. Another staff , name with J was very kind, saw the frustration we had and then did it for us The other comment is the bed mattress is not very comfortable and the quilt is too stiff. Other than these, it has been a nice stay.

This hotel is undergoing a major refurbishment, not before time. There were many aspects of the room that were beyond their use-by date. Presumably the refurbishment will fix these items. Less excusable was the careless manor in which the room was cleaned, with dirt and lint being left on the carpet, in drawers and in the corners of the bathroom. On checking under the bed before we checked out, we discovered a used serviette, presumably left by some previous guest. Very much on the plus side though is the convenient location near the shore of Lake Burley Griffin and footpaths to many of the major Canberra attractions. The restaurant in the lobby is excellent and features a range of dishes that are well prepared using an interesting mix of ingredients.

“NOT BAD”

Lobby area is modern/really sharp. Guest rooms are older but perfectly OK...good TV and shower. Restaurant is a bit overpriced, but food - particularly breakfast - is good. Ten minute walk to several really good restaurants.

Quiet location, spacious rooms. Great views from balcony.
