“Nice Hotel, great beach, pools and good location.”

Stayed here last year, hotel and grounds have not changed. Rooms are spacious and comfortable, prefer the ocean front studio I had last year. But was glad to have upgrade to a one bedroom suite this year. The two days I was there were unusually cool in the 50's at night. The hotel only has AC, so was lucky to have the suite which had a gas stove with four burners and an oven. Room was comfortable using the gas stove as a ghetto furnace!!! property has 2 nice pools, 3 pool hot tube very unique design, a great beach and is close to the bus stop. Hotel is clean, and the staff goes out of their way to be friendly and helpful. Will be staying here next year, can not beat the price for the quality of the accomdations.

When to go
Check out Coco Bongos, it is a must see, a very unique club that you will always remember. For women who like to dance and be the center of attention it is especially memorable to have the waiter take you to dance on the center cat walk between Vegas performance. Have been to Coco Bongos twice and always take friends that have not been there. It is worth the $50, but be prepared to be wasted by the end of the night because the drinks are included and they just keep coming if you tip your waiter for the first couple of drinks 20-50 pesos. Make sure to put some pesos away for a taxi ride home at 5am!!!
Getting around
Take the bus, it will get you where every you need to go for 8.5pesos about 65centsUS. The buses are comfortable and you will get to meet some of the locals as this is there main mode of transportation. Taxi rides can be expensive, so always ask the charge before you get in and remember in Mexico everything is negotible even taxi rides!!!

“Awesome, quiet & relaxing!”

I really enjoyed my stay here and was very plesantly surprised! I had been at an "all inclusive" for my son's wedding for a couple of nights before which (was nice for the ceremony but overpriced since I don't drink much & definitely don't need to eat so much) unfortunately included a lot of noise & just so-so food & drinks! The restaurant at Grand Avalon was great and very accomodating with my preferences, customizing exactly to what I wanted! I highly recommend the ocean front room w/great balcony, for anyone wanting affordable rest and relaxation w/o all the frills. Beautiful infinity edge pool and beachfront. I'm not a big fan of stairs but these were very easy since they're wide & not steep, actually great exercise which I always need more of!

“Great location and service--will keep coming back!”

This is the second time I stay at the Avalon Grand Cancun and it was great! I did not have the same room I got last time but the staff was nice enough to switch the room. It was not as great as the first time (first floor) but there was a view to the ocean and that made it all better. The staff is courteous, the room clean and the beach breathtaking.I recommend it and would stay there again!

Area recommendations
The strip of hotels on the Kukulcan Road is great--especially if it is not spring break! During spring break, when it is full of partying college students, I would not go.
Getting around
The public buses are excellent! They only cost 8 pesos per person and will take you to town, throughout the hotel strip, etc. If you want to go to the big mall in town, Plaza las Americas (if you need something or are curious about local stores), #27 is your bus but it does not run as often as #1, that runs to the hotel area from downtown. So, be ready to wait but it is worth it.
Dining
There is a tiny restaurant by the Avalon Grand called Los Habaneros. It is DELICIOUS! The staff is extremely friendly, the food is traditional Yucatecan food and they will make accommodations for those of us that are vegetarian. While it is not fancy, it is very affordable and completely worth it. They serve breakfast and lunch. I cannot recommend it enough!

“Nice hotel with a good feel”

We came here for a single night and it was very nice. Our room had an ocean view, mini fridge, king bed and sofa bed. The service was great, the beach was private, they had an additional pool with swim-up bar, and the location was right along the hotel strip so getting anywhere with the bus was easy. Overall I'd say it was a good hotel.

“Cozy and Convenient”

Staff was superb. A few language issues. Asked for coffee in the room and only got it on two days. Quiet hotel amid a lot of action in the area. Perfect location to enjoy all the area had to offer. I would go back!

Area recommendations
In the La Isla and Flamingo shopping center areas. A wonderful place to be.

“Good hotel, good location”

Th hotel was at a convenient location, not big, but comfortable. The staff was friendly, as our room was not ready when we arrived, we were upgraded to a better room with an ocean view. I would definitely recommend this hotel, there is also car rent and tour assistance in the lobby. ATM and shops just accross the road.

“Good location”

The hotel is very well located, with malls within good walking distance, also it has a good beach in comperison to other hotel further north of the hotel zone. Good customer service, and friendly employees. Now, I knew the hotel did not have an elevator, but after few days it really bother us walking up the stairs. The room had a good beach view and it was confortable, but it had some problems the toilet. I would recomend this hotel but it needs to remodel the bathrooms, they very small and old furniture.

Area recommendations
I recomend to take all the tour offered in Cancun, especially Tolum, Xel-Ha, Xcaret, and if you are interested in history, Chichen-itza. WE LOVE MEXICO!!
