beautiful beach resort with no beachPosted Mar 6, 2014
Pros: Very clean, well maintained. Friendly, responsive staff and decent food
Cons: Move to another location where it would have a quality beach.
Location: Pirate ship near by is interesting.
If you don't care about or want a nice beach, this is a lovely resort. The rooms are clean, well appointed, the staff are all very friendly and responsive, and the food for an all inclusive is actually pretty good. Few of the rooms have ocean or beach views, most are wrapped around the pool area. The pool area is very nice, but I can stay at a Holiday Inn and have a room by the pool. The Barcelo Costa Cancun is located right by an inlet to the lagoon, and there is tremendous boat traffic going by the hotel all the time. There is also a very strong current going out to the ocean that you feel very much when you are in the water by the beach. As to the beach, lot's of palm trees for shade, but the beach itself is very small, restrictive and with all the boat traffic (big boats, the isla mujeres ferry & others) there can be tremendous wakes to deal with. Plus the strong current. I would love to give this resort a higher recommendation, but since we love a real beach, and this one doesn't have one. We can't. So, If you want a nice, clean well kept resort, with a nice pool, friendly staff, decent all inclusive foods, this is your place. If you want a quality beach, look elsewhere.

Pros: Helpfulness of the staff
Cons: Have the wines listed on the wine list on hand. Two nights in a row the listed white wines were not available.
Location: various tours are available. Snorkeling trip to Isla de Las Mujeres was nice
The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Check in was quick and smooth. Some noise from "Pirate Ship" party each night as it returned from cruise at 10:00 but that was minor and did not last long. Transportation to and from city was easy by bus. Food was good but not gourmet but then you can't expect that at an all inclusive.

COLD SHOWERSPosted Feb 23, 2014
Pros: The bar staff, the view, the beach, Mexican Lindo
Cons: The staff at front desk, the temperature of the showers, the food
Location: Close to bus line and town and the ferry to Isla Mujeres
The front staff was unhelpful, we had a cold shower from the first day and complained almost daily, with nothing done about it, they did mention the entire hotel was having problems but we asked other guests and they said they had hot water. We talked to the general manager on the fourth night and still nothing was done even asking for another room when his response was the whole hotel was having problems. The food was bland and not very good. The bar staff and waiters/waitresses were all wonderful. The beach was lovely and the views. If not for the water it would have been better rated. Just were not helpful at the front desk.

Gets the job done!Posted Feb 22, 2014
Nice place overall- had everything we needed but no frills. Room was comfortable and big. Food was fine -- best meal was fajitas at "Mexico Lindo" restaurant but you have to make dinner reservations early if you don't want to have to go to the buffet for every dinner!! Cons: charge for wifi, far from anything on "the strip," gym was small and didn't have anything to clean the machines. Gross!

Pros: SIZE AND FACILITY VERY NICE. ALSO AN ABUNDANCE OF BEACH CHAIRS AT POOL AND BEACH
Cons: A LITTLE BETTER EXPLANATION OF WHAT YOU GET AT THE SPECIALTY ALA CARTE FOOD VENUES
Location: EASY ACCESS TO EVERYTHING AND BUS RIDES ONLY $1
I REVIEWED ONLINE OTHER REVIEWS ON THIS HOTEL, AND SOME WERE NEGATIVE ABOUT FOOD. APPARENTLY THOSE PEOPLE EAT PRIME RIB AND LOBSTER EVERY DAY AT HOME. MY WIFE AND I FOUND THE FOOD VERY GOOD. HOTEL VERY NICE AND CLEAN. HOTEL EMPLOYEES FRIENDLY AND HELPFULL. WE DID NOT WANT A LARGE RESORT AND FOUND THE BARCELO JUST RIGHT FOR US. WE WERE ON THE 6TH FLOOR FACING THE POOL AND OCEAN. IT WAS VERY NICE VIEW OFF OUR BALCONY.

Service and bar staff were amazingPosted Feb 19, 2014
Our hotel stay at the Barxelo costa Cancun was fantastic. Between our bar on the beach staff Israel and Bernado who were our favorite part the the stay and the entertainment on the water just behind, there was always something to see or be a part of. Would absolutely go again and tell our friends about it. The pirate ships are awesome!

Nice place right on the beachPosted Feb 13, 2014
Pros: Being all inclusive
Cons: Better lighting in the bathroom
Location: We went on the SubSee and enjoyed it. It was the only time we left the hotel.
We enjoyed our stay a great deal. Food was good, shows every night and new things to do every hour. The beach was small and you needed to get to the beach early to stake out your place but the water was nice and the pool area was beautiful.
