Nice hotel right on beach

Posted Mar 28, 2015
Pros: Beach and pool areas.
Cons: Bathrooms need to be updated in rooms. Better food selection in restaurants.
Location: Xel-Ha excursion is a must do day trip. All day inclusive trip was worth the $120 per person. Beautiful location to snorkel, zip line, cliff jump.
Nice hotel right on the beach. Beautiful beach area, very clean and well attended by wait staff and lifeguards. Pool area also very pretty. Rooms are nice. Bathrooms are a bit outdated but are clean. Restaurants on site are good. Food can be a bit redundant after a few days. Daily breakfast buffet is well done. Overall very nice place to stay especially for the price. Language barrier with staff can be a challenge. Would stay there again.

Hotel bueno, bonito y razonable de costo.

Posted Mar 27, 2015

A decent hotel for the money

Posted Mar 25, 2015
Pros: The size of the room and the balcony Proximity to the beach Decent price/quality ratio
Cons: Staff could be nicer Rooms are not super fancy, but that's ok Prices for hotel amenities such as food, massages should be much,
Location: There's a Captain's Cove restaurant across the street which is okay - has really good reviews, but the food is just "ok". Also fairly expensive place.
This was a fairly decent hotel for the money, but keep in mind that this is a "family hotel" - it's built for families with children (which was not our case). The rooms were enormous - we had a living room, kitchen, bedroom, and of course the bathroom. Our room was made for 4 people (one king bed in the bedroom and two twin murphy beds in the living room). The balcony was also very big, but it was shared with a room next to ours. Since there was also a door between the rooms (which was locked and someone else was in it). Fortunately for us, the people in that room did not use the balcony at all. As for the beach, it's fairly clean. Lots of seaweed all over the beach and in the ocean as well (I'm fine with it). The pool area is nice, although the pool design is somewhat odd... there are 2 distinctly-disconnected pools, but the bigger one had two "levels" of pool, and you had to get out of the pool in order to get into the other one, even though they were technically one pool (but had a small, waterfall-kind barrier). Oddly enough, there's also an "island" between the pools with beach beds, but it's only accessible if you walk on this waterfall-like thingy, which is fun but can also be dangerous (it's slippery). One more thing: food in the restaurant is very expensive, at least by Mexican standards. Buffet lunch/dinner is $20 per person. The waiters expect a tip even when they don't do anything (literally), and get very mad when you don't tip them.
