Nice stay, good hotel, but beware of staff

Pros: Good value, good room. Great view.
Cons: 1) Restaurant staff needs to learn English and the prices need to come down to at least below double that of local places as opposed to 4x.
Location: Calypso is a nice restaurant up the road (left from hotel down path) past the 2 RIU hotels and across from the LCD screen. Others in that area as well
We have stayed at FAC a few times. It's a great place. Yes, there is a nude beach the next hotel over that has loud music and rockin' parties. Never the less, many families had their kids there, which was surprising. The beach has steps to get in, and some sharp rocks. It's ok once you are aware from shore. The on site restaurant "La Palappa" has been good in the past, but they have raised prices to about 5 times that of the restaurants that were once across the street, and those currently just a short 3/4 mile walk up a nice path down kulkulcan or by a short buss ride using the R1 and R2 for 1 dollar or 10 pesos each way. The should could have been a little better, but was a typical hotel shower. Most importantly, the staff was horrible at answering questions. They spoke English for the most part, but not all, and they didn't always understand. They told us restaurants were out of business that weren't. Gave us bad directions. Gave us the wrong opening and closing times of places in the area. These people knew nothing outside of the hotel property. I mean absolutely NOTHING! OR they gave the wrong info on purpose. The staff needs a lot more training. 1) Restaurant staff needs to learn English and the prices need to come down to at least below double that of local places as opposed to 4x. 2) Concierge and bell boys need to know the local area and not just want to call a taxi. 3) Front Desk needs detailed maps that include all the little areas

Wonderful vacation

Spent 6 nights. Hotel was beautiful, beach was nice and clean. Only con was the food was very expensive and not so good. Within walking distance or bus to other restaurants.

The staff was kind and friendly. The hotel is in front of the bus line. There are free laundry facilities, just bring your own soap. We reserved the smallest room, two beds and small kitchenette (microwave and fridge with dishes and utensils). For two adults and a nine and eleven year old, the room was big enough. The balcony with ocean (and fancy hotel pool next door) view was wonderful. When we were not on an all day tour, we were at the pool or playing at the beach. The breakfast buffet was nice but too expensive, so we listened to a time share presentation for a free breakfast for four and a $100 coupon for a tour. The only negative was the musty odor upon entering the room but we got used to it or it went away and wasn't a problem. Beautiful family friendly hotel on the beach.

Not up to standards

The photos of the hotel look great, and I was expecting a nice posh semi-luxurious room. What I walked into was a building that was old, not updated in a while, with stained ceiling tiles in the lobby. First thing I got wind of was a waft of mustiness when I opened the door to my room, the door which I had to put my shoulder into to open. The building is essentially an apartment building, with kitchens and so on. Cold floors, air conditioning was cranked, and everything looked out of the 70's. Plastic chairs on the balcony, a color scheme that was not impressive, and the RIU Palace looming in the background saying "you should have booked here". Late at night I went for a dip in the pool which the lighting is very nice. Immediately greeted by a security guard to tell me the hours I could swim. Felt more like a jail than a hotel. Next is the buffet. Typical Mexican far for $26 that I could and have purchased on the street for $4. The pricing felt out of place. And over $100 for a massage. They price like the luxury hotels without being luxury. I feel like I was tricked, the blunt end of an Expedia joke. Not recommended. Pros: the clubs are 5 minutes walk if your into that, and the internet was fast. No photos because I would rather forget this place.

The Hotel was almost perfect!

Pros: Clean, food and entertainment staff.
Cons: The only thing I would suggest is the pillows were really bad!
Location: lots of nightlife, good food and entertainment with in walking distance.
It was exactly what I wanted in a Hotel. It was clean, the food was good, and the staff was delightful. Especially the entertainment staff. Alan and Omar were a blast! There was not alot of spring breaker wildness but just enough to keep you entertained. Very quiet at night, so it was very relaxing. I would absolutely refer this place to anyone and most definately return.

Pros: the tent of the restaurant.
Location: hotel location is 10 minutes walking to the shops & restaurants
the hotel is at the end side of the island . the hotel is close to the down town , just 10 minutes walking . The location of the restaurant at beach.

Just hated the bathroom, specially the the bath. Besides that everything was good. The staff were friendly. Almost forget, it seemed that the garçons were tripping on the receive, seems like they did rise the price. Not sure, but it seemed.

Nudity & No Refund for Early Check Out

What they do not mention is that they are directly next door to a "Clothing Optional" hotel, so if naked people prancing around makes you a bit uncomfortable, I would avoid this hotel. Needless to say we checked out early and contacted Expedia for refund for the nights not used and the manager had the audacity to refused based on the fact that we did not check out at the desk, HOWEVER, we did check out at the desk. After verifying this with Expedia, now he was somehow able to find the check-out records, but still refused to issue a refund.
