Cheap and Cheerful

Posted Mar 3, 2015
Pros: It was quiet, and close to everything we needed. Free laundromat,
Cons: Wifi in the rooms. More lounge chairs.
This is a nice place, with few amenities, just a small restaurant and a pool and the smile of crocodiles every day. Wifi in the areas of the main office. There are Kitchens with full size fridge, 4 burner stove tops , toaster, microwave dishes pots and pans and Kitchenettes with bar fridge, coffee maker, toaster. There are no other supplies. Make sure you request which room you need when booking your trip. There is a Beautiful grocery store just 4 minute walk away. You need to buy or bring a few things, Ttowels, paring knife, plastic drink glasses, paper towels, stove lighter etc. This is an old time share complex, with people staying there for many months. Mostly an older crowd 60 - 80 yrs. it is close to the beach, restaurants and night clubs. We recommend Chick N Go and Taco Rigo for good inexpensive food. Cancun is a young persons party zone, everything is expensive, be prepared to pay $5.00 for a beer at many places. Bring bug dope, the mosquitos are fierce.

It has beautiful surroundings for it being smak in downtown near the party places. This place was one of many that survived the growth of the city. That's why the old charm to it. The walls are made of Cal and white and old charm furniture.... It is what it use to be. A fine hotel in the day. As to the showerheads are from 1986 water-savers...ouch! That needs to change soon.tub is Hugh, but doesn't work. The views are gorgeous.. Of the lagoon.Lots of sunbathers there. Beautiful pool, near restaurant. We ate breakfast there once. Preferred eating out. This hotel is great for peace and relaxation, contrary to being downtown the noise it minimal so if lounging around in tranquillity is what you want this is the place. They have walk ways so you can take a lazy walk or run, watch out for crocodiles! No swimming in lagoon permitted Signs everywhere and gates, high headge walls to preventcrocs and peeps form meeting, ha didn't see one any where. Ask old timers and they said never seen one one premises ever! Lol he said he'd been working there for over 20yrs. Well we enjoyed our 2 bed room with great view from first floor. Near lobby where WiFi available and also poolside.Greeted by an iguana several times, but still no crocs. No ice machine.didn't have room service. Laundromat on site. Walk to buses and pretty much every where close. Took R-1 too old downtown to enjoy good food locals activities, a bus to playa Del Carmen, ADO..bus station take you any where even to airport to 63pesos.

Pros: The staff and its comfortable feel, rather like an old pair of favoured slippers.
Cons: Kep up the maintenance as you have a jewel in the rough that can't be let go.
Location: A good variety of options of most opportunities facilitated by a frequent and inexpensive bus service.
We arrived in the dark, noisy, clouded night driven from the airport by a driver who didn't know the way. Our expectations were definitely moderated. Over the length of our stay of over one week, we were quite won over. A less expensive hotel with older substance and Mexican feel, spacious non-linear rooms unlike what so many hotels have, great staff and protocol, and a restaurant that produced tasty fare. We thank those we met for making our stay interactive and friendly, especially those who had been coming there for years...a majority! Their loyalty was palpable despite what was described as some decrement in the upkeep and status of the Clipper and its future. As we have to return to Cancun, we will also definitely be returning to the Clipper.

stayed two nights, good location, very quiet.

Pros: quiet and good location.
Cons: improve inside units ie. beds!
Location: near shopping area and lots of restaurants. swimming beach was a little ways away from our location ( 15min. walk)
older units but well taken care of, beds were small and hard could use a bit of interior up-grading. outside was very pleasing, quiet, and good location. pool was not heated and had no hot tub, also not enough lawn chairs. we did not eat at the resort but we heard It was fine.

we like the general location of the property

Posted Feb 10, 2015
Pros: Location and some of the staff.
Cons: Everything
Location: Good central location. Lots of good food near. Beach is near. But stay somewhere else.
But we were very disappointed with the beds (mattresses) and the pillows. They were both very hard and uncomfortable. The only place to sit was in 2 uncomfortable chairs. We asked for a kitchenette, water service, key to the laundry room and a coffee pot. They looked in the computer and saw we got our rooms thru expedia and declined all requests. There were others who received all these services. So, we felt like second class citizens. The price was good, but the accommodations were the worst we have ever had. Wifi was also poor.

Better than I expected, plus great location...

Posted Feb 8, 2015
Pros: Location.
Cons: Better internet service, better restaurant, better pool.
Location: Close to all the discos and beaches, but also very loud in the middle of the night even when trying to sleep.
I was expecting a horrible dump based on the price and previous reviews, but it was a great budget experience and great location. If I hadn't gotten a small cold toward the end of my stay, I don't expect I would have stayed much in the hotel anyway, so it is a perfect place to stay for those who like to have a ton of activities and not be in the hotel the whole time.

Decent hotel, for the price

If you plan to stay outside more than you're inside, then this hotel is the place for you. No, it's not upscale, but it was comfortable for my husband and I. It was a villa type setting, more so old-fashioned, but still comfortable. On the down side, your towels are only changed once while you're there and you have to pay for fresh towels. To add, the shower is like a water hose (too powerful); to illustrate, you'll be the cleanest that you've ever been, lol. Also, another negative is that there's no wifi in the rooms, only in the lobby. Overall, the fellow guests were welcoming and very friendly. A lot of the guests have been members of the Clipper Club for 20+ years; beautiful atmosphere. Another positive to highlight is that the location of the hotel is walking distance from many main attractions; while the upscale hotels are not.
