Recreation

Arrayed above the resort's 200-meter (219-yard) beach frontage are a main pool complex, a 6-meter-long (20-ft) spa tub, and a second, 14-meter-long (45-ft) quiet freeform pool secluded on the hotel tower's south side. The sinuous, 100-meter-long (109-yard) main pool includes a toddler's wading area, and has an infinity edge overlooking the Caribbean Sea. Two six-person spa tubs adjoin the pool. Thatch-roof palapas with lounge chairs and fruit can be rented on the beach.

Near the quiet pool lies a lagoon-style 4.5-meter-deep (15-ft) scuba-diving pool measuring approximately 15 by 15 meters (50 by 50 ft) containing an artificial reef and connecting to a 100-meter-long (109-yard) shallow channel for beginning divers. An independent watersports center, AquaWorld, offers beginner, refresher, and certification diving courses (surcharges).

An indoor pool sheltered by a two-story pavilion with floor-to-ceiling windows includes a 23-meter (25-yard) side for swimming laps and jets on a shorter side for swimming against a current. Adjacent to the pool is a 5.25-meter-square (17-ft) spa tub.

The resort rents boogie boards, and AquaWorld arranges parasailing flights. AquaWorld's main center is a marina located 1.5 km (1 mi) away on Nichupté Lagoon, where a myriad of watersports are available, including kayaking, personal watercraft, sailing, and windsurfing. AquaWorld also books fishing trips and scuba diving and snorkeling excursions.

The resort includes two lighted tennis courts (surcharges). The 18-hole Hilton golf course is 2.5 km (1.5 mi) from the hotel, and the 18-hole Pok-Ta-Pok Golf Club is 7.5 km (4.75 mi).

“Perfect for families or events”

The JW is a huge resort, perfect for the family or older couple looking for a hotel with all amenities. If you're a young couple or worse, single, this is not the place to stay. It's relatively isolated, and after 9 pm is very quiet. Also, I had a pair of shoes stolen outside after a wedding (I left them unattended for 20 minutes).

“Returned to this hotel numerous times & was 100% satisfied every time”

The J.W. Marriott in Cancun is absolutely beautiful, well-maintained, and a hotel I'd highly recommend. I've stayed there four times in the past 5 years with my family and this past visit, with my boyfriend; I've had a perfect experience every time. The staff is like no other-they are exceptionally friendly, helpful, and professional; such hard workers! Cancun is in itself, a beautiful place to visit, but staying at the J.W. Marriott has made my vacation experience even better. I rate it a perfect 10 overall.

Area recommendations

La Isla is an outdoor mall located no more than five minutes from the hotel (by taxi). The atmosphere is relaxed, kid-friendly, and safe, as there are numerous police officials and guards in the area and stationed around the mall. The various selection of shops will please everyone (jewelry, clothing, perfume, shoes, accessories, games, food...). The restaurants are fantastic as well. I highly recommend the Thai Lounge which is right on the water. My boyfriend and I were seated in our own private tiki hut with a one-of-a-kind view that came with some excellent service. The food was delicious-personally I'm not daring enough or fully open to trying new foods but they had a great selection of dishes. I also recommend La Madonna's which is an Italian restaurant located in La Isla mall as well. The service was exceptional, the waiters were very professional and dedicated. The food was also delicious; we shared a caesar salad that was fresh, homemade, and put together right at our table!

“Aged look needs big refreshment”

Clean and well maintained, very nice staff. . .however - outdated look, poor planning and clumsy architecture of building, spaces and outdoor areas. Contributing to aged look are the lounge chairs throughout - in old and dark stripes, with wrought iron frame, uncomfortable to use. Tables and Furniture throughout as well. The cheap look of the motel type suburban Marriotts haunts this hotel. If you can put up with some of this - you can get something out of a good location, wonderful sea and beach, good spa and excellent masseuses. Food in restaurants is mediocre. Try the Aquaworld great guys will advise and show you a few tricks - Fernando is the best!

“Great hotel and great location”

The hotel lives upto its billing in terms of service, facilities and quality. It is right on the beach and very convenient to transportation. The only minor drawback is that for the 5-start hotel it should have a 24 hour coffee shop which is lacking here.

Overall we had a good stay at the JW Marriott. Great location on the strip, not central but sufficiently removed from the "party" area of Cancun which we weren't really there for. some of the highlights; Nice Pool, great beach front, excellent and attentive staff, very nice SPA and exercise facilities including an indoor lap pool. Overall a good experience, can't really find any negatives to point out.

“Clean and excellent service”

Really nice and comfortable. The perfect combination of up scale and attentive service.

Getting around

the taxi service is expensive, so bargain with the drivers. The hotel offered taxi service that held 7 people comfortably. However, the typical taxi would only hold 4 people and most times after dinner or going out for the evening, we needed to take 2 cars for 6 people. Caribbean Carnival was fun and entertaining.

“Best Hotel I have ever been to!”

This is a very grandiose Hotel. The rooms are clean, new, spacious. The floors are marble. The swimming pool is great. The amenities are awesome. The service and food quality is outstanding. I really had no negative experience during my stay with the family. We have a 6 year old and a 16 month old. We all had a great time and will definitely consider going back there again. The only cons is the price.
