Best hotel in isla mujeres minus the entertainment

Posted Aug 19, 2014
Overall great place to stay! Food had a real Home cook feel about it. Different food every day. Staff very friendly and courteous. The beach was right behind the hotel with huts and cabanas and offered beverage and food service. All inclusive is the way to go period! The best dish was the fried fish just ask for extra lime and your good. I promise! The down side was for such a nice place to not offer entertainment was disappointing and music selection were you could find it was not good. The drinks I had to ask for extra liquor cause they were definitely watered down. And you MUST ask for premium brand our you will always get house.

PA WOW

Posted Aug 12, 2014
The best all inclusive I've stayed at. The service was excellent, the facilities were great, the food was good, and the beach was awesome. We typically spend the majority of the day at the beach so PA was for us. The crew of waiters were friendly, always attentive, and had good advice for off resort adventures. I would with out a doubt recommend it, and will return. I stayed in a way pricier place in Cancun in May for a wedding and PA has it beat hands down. Only downer for me was the beds were too firm and we had a superior room with not much space, but we had a view of Jax and the beach from our balcony. I'll trade a bed for a view any day. Upgrades were available, but I didn't go for the room size. Shopping and eats/bars in easy walking distance. Rent a golf cart and go snorkeling.

Pros: Clean, safe and wonderful staff. . .Café del Mar is a great place to eat even if you are not staying at the hotel. This is a calm island.
Cons: Once when we were there they had a local art exhibit in the lobby of the hotel which we enjoyed. I would like to see something like this more often.
Location: Whale shark trip is by far the best. Snorkeling is good but not great. Contoy trip is worth the time once. Garafon is a little commercial.
We have stayed at this Privileges often and it is a good match for what we want. The rooms are extremely clean with everything working properly. The food is wonderful. We rotate between doing the all-inclusive and doing just the breakfast as we also enjoy the food at several of the local places to eat. This trip was a non-all inclusive but even with this we ate once at the Café del Mar. . .not only is the food good but the atmosphere is just wonderful with the live music and proximity to the beach. I just cannot say enough nice things about the staff. They are friendly and helpful though tourists can be a particularly demanding group of people. We saw several couples who we have seen on previous visits there so I believe it speaks well for the hotel that there are so many people who choose to return. I think we may hold the record though as my husband and I along with our traveling friends have been there 19 times since we happened there the first week it opened. . .in the middle of the H1N1 virus when our other favorite hotel closed. We like that Isla is convenient and also not a party-all-night scene. The beaches are beautiful. . .my husband and I walk each morning heading west, rounding the point of the old Avalon (now Mia or something like that), walking back east across two nice beach stretches to find sea glass then up on the colonnade to the narrow part of the island where we cut back at the naval base and head back west in time for breakfast at Privileges.

A week stay.

Posted Aug 11, 2014
Pros: Close to the beach; not crowded; fresh beach towels daily; and the cost of our stay.
Cons: Air conditioning in the lobby & restaurants was poor, food selection & quality was below expectations, view of a cemetery out my balcony was terrible.
Location: Hidalgo street was walking distance with souvenir shops, bars & restaurants; the north beach is steps away off the property which has the best beaches
Love the beaches, the cool refreshing crystal clear water and the beautiful weather. The hotel is okay for what it is. It's not a big resort with plush amenities and doesn't have a hotel staff that goes above and beyond to meet your expectations. It is a good value for what you pay. With that being said, "You get what you pay for". The pictures of the rooms and their size were an impressive illusion. Also, I had a lovely view of a huge above ground cemetery out my balcony which was described by the staff as a "partial ocean view". Disappointed there is no shuttle from the hotel to or from the ferry dock. The one swimming pool was like warm bath water. I ordered a bucket of bottled water from my beach hut and it arrived warm. Who serves warm water on a hot day on the beach? I tipped my housekeeper one day and came back and my tip was gone but my room was never cleaned. Had to call for clean towels and more water. A bunch of little things that keep this hotel from being one of the big boys.

Great Location with one complaint

Posted Aug 9, 2014
Pros: The beach, the staff, and the proximity to the docks and downtown area.
Cons: Should never allow a guest to stay in a room with an odor of mildew.
Location: See coments above.
We stayed at Privileges Aluxes the week of 27 July 2014. The location is spectacular. The property is on the inland side with a pristine white sand beach, beautifully clear calm waters, and excellent service staff in the restaurants / beach front. It is part of the island's business district providing easy access to a variety of restaurants, bars, and shops. There are also some excellent sea food just down the street around the marinas/docks. It felt safe with a much appreciated low key energy/vibe. I definitely plan to return Isle Mujeres! There was an issue with the room. We had a standard room (no balcony) that had a musty smell. Should've requested an immediate switch but figured it just needed to "air out". Well it didn't so the next day we advised the front desk who promised to send someone. There was no improvement so the following day we asked to be switched. This time we were asked to meet someone at the room. A maintenance person arrived and proceeded to pour a disinfectant/deodorizer into the AC condensate pan. This resulted in a strong smell so we left the room for the day with the window open. The next day was OK but in a dathe smell did slowly return. At that point we didn't want to spend any additional energy on the issue. The room number was 521 .. avoid this one. In retrospect should have upgraded as the room felt rather small. Thus far the hotel has not made any gestures towards making amends but we didn't "make a scene" so ...

The View

Posted Aug 5, 2014
Pros: The staff was about as good as I could have hoped.
Cons: The cleaning crew did not come until the afternoon & twice (out of 4 days) we ended up not getting our room cleaned.
Location: We were there to swim with the Whale Sharks and Scuba Dive. Both were incredible and memories I'll have forever. They were incredible.
Our last 2 nites were in a Platinum Suite and the views of the surrounding ocean were awesome.

An All-Inclusive within walking distance to town

Posted Aug 5, 2014
Pros: The food, the easy access to the town and shops around, the golf carts available in town for traveling around the little island, the beautiful beaches
Cons: The only thing that could be improved is in the rooms where there is just a shower, they need to put something to hold you soap and shampoos.....
Location: Twp blocks from the hotel is a street full of restaurants and shops for Mexican souvenirs..Tons of restaurants of all kinds of food and bars/music
This is the second time we stayed at Privilege Aluxes and it was just as perfect as the first time. The hotel is beautiful, has beautiful grounds, a breathtaking beach with a beach bar and restaurant right on the beach with incredible food all day long...excellent pool, tons of chaise lounges.....tons of palapas on beach, always able to get a spot, sand is as fine as flour, water is as turquoise and calm as can be, town 2 blocks away with tons of restaurants and music everywhere.....we have stayed at many all-inclusive hotels in Ixtapa, Tulum, Huatulco and Cancun, but this place is the best by far. The food is delicious, Sabor has indoor and outdoor seating, buffet style, excellent food, Cafe del Mar is located right on the beach, open from around noon until about 5pm..and in the evening under the stars...drinks and great food, ....don't have to dress up.....except for Satay which is the only one that requires reservations and a little more dress-up. This hotel has it all, the rooms are spacious and very clean, beds very comfortable...and the golf carts to go around the island are just so much fun. I am already planning my 3rd trip for next year. You cannot go wrong in this beautiful property. Hope it always stays as wonderful as it is.

Nice hotel and very accomodating staff.

Posted Aug 5, 2014
I would say that the only downside was that you are required to sign for everything at the end of each tab as not all guests at the hotel are all inclusive. Also the hotel is not on the beach as the pictures appear to indicate. Lovely pool and nice staff, good drinks and good food.

Thank you for your comments and for giving us the opportunity to contact you. At Privilege we offer guests the option to do all inclusive or book a room with breakfast instead, we only ask our All inclusive guests to sign for their consumptions. We apologize if this may cause you trouble. Regarding the beach, the hotel is just across a small street where our Beach Club is located. We are glad that overall you had a nice stay and enjoyed the facilities, food and drinks and received the best service.

Great Relaxing Escape

Posted Aug 4, 2014
Pros: The beach is gorgeous; the water is a beautiful turquoise and the sand is super-fine and white. The palapas are great aesthetically and practically.
Location: Playa Norte-one of the highest ranked beaches in the world. If it's whale shark season, do the excursion! Tortungranja (turtle farm); Playa Tiburon
You have just stumbled upon perhaps the best deal for an all-inclusive Caribbean beach vacation. I was a bit worried that it may not live up to the hype of 4.5 rating given the low price. IT DID! The service is top notch; the staff is friendly and helpful from the minute you get to the resort to minute you leave. Whatever you want or need, just ask and someone will get it for you or tell you where and how to get it. Our deluxe suite was spacious and the air conditioning kept the room as cold as wanted. The bathrooms were large and modern with hot water and great water pressure. The room was restocked daily and room service was only a call away if you needed more of anything. 24-hour room service was included in the all-inclusive option. In addition to room service, the resort has several dining options. Sabor offers a breakfast buffet (including cooked to order eggs and omelets), lunch and a dinner buffet that changes nightly. The poolbar offers a limited menu for lunch. Satay is an slightly more formal Asian-themed dinner restaurant that requires reservations. Cafe del Mar is a restaurant serving lunch and dinner on the beach. You can also order from Cafe del Mar's lunch menu while you are relaxing on your padded lounger under a palapa on the beach. Cafe del Mar's dinner menu changes every Monday. My favorite was Cafe del Mar - you just can't beat the view - and it was good quality food.
