Beautiful Place to Stay

Posted Jul 1, 2015
This was my second time here and YES I will be coming back. I have to say this time I was a little underwhelmed with the food. That being said it was good, but I think it was much better in 2012. The staff were all extremely nice and helpful. Sergio out at the beach bar rocks!! Totally took care of me and my partner. We rented golf carts to go see the island and the hotel even set up my whale shark excursion. If you're looking for somewhere to stay on Isla Mujeres you should stay here at least once - though I'm sure you'll return. Thanks Privilege Aluxes for another great stay!

TERRIBLE FOOD and zero activities

Posted Jun 26, 2015
Pros: Beautiful beach and water to relax
Cons: Food was subpar and hot foods served room temperature. Addition of activities beside not even nightly music for 2 hours.
Location: Location was perfect.
As an all-inclusive resort, I expected to have a great variety of better than average food and some activities. It is great place to relax if that's your goal. There is very little to see when snorkeling at the resort and they do not have equipment. Great place to lay around and enjoy the beautiful water. No beach or pool volleyball, pool aerobics, dance lessons, etc., but plenty of chaises under palapas for shade. If you tip which you should, the service is excellent! At the beach, ask for Omar and at Satay, ask for Carlos! As previously stated in other reviews, the Pool bar service is terrible even with tipping. The room is also kept clean and supplied if you tip. Remember that most of these workers' earnings are their tips!! My boyfriend and I are not picky eaters but the food was sub par and more often than not, food that should have been hot was cold. Having done at least 8 all -inclusive resorts, I find that the food is beautifully presently and offers so many choices that I am overwhelmed with excellent choices. Absolutely not the case here so if possible do not go all inclusive unless you plan on drinking alot. There are plenty of good, inexpensive places to eat walking distance from the hotel in Hidalgo. If you are stuck with the all-inclusive, eat at the beach cafe, room service or make reservations at Satay (you can tip to get a reservation when they say they are booked). If they offer a BOTTLE of wine, beware they will expect you to pay for it.

Extremely friendly staff and nice hotel

Posted Jun 24, 2015
Nice hotel with extremely friendly staff who is always willing to help and to serve. The only complaint was the food was hit or miss. But because we did the all inclusive option we could try everything and then continue to eat what we liked. Overall I would recommend for a nice relaxing stay.

Huge deluxe suites

Posted Jun 24, 2015
Lots of space, large bathroom. Breakfast buffet was pretty good. The beach bar/affordable was yummy! The best chicken quesadillas I ever had! Palapas and beach chairs are nicely spread out. There are also four bali beds on the beach that you can use for free, first come, first serve. Never felt crowded. Rent a golf cart and explore Isla!!!! Also, even if you have the AI package, be sure to eat out several times, restaurants on Isla are excellent and very affordable. We had a great time.

overall good experience

Posted Jun 22, 2015
My wife and I thought we would try something a little different this year. Much smaller resort without many of the amenities we've had in the past. We had a superior room with the Jacuzzi on the balcony. The room itself was very small with the king size bed in it, but the bathroom was large and the Jacuzzi was very big also. I would suggest to anyone planning on any fun on the balcony to take along some electricians tape to cover the lights. There is no switch and they stay on, in our case, until the wee hours of the morning. We really enjoyed our buffet dinners as they switched up the menu every evening. Asian and Caribbean nights were really fantastic, and the breakfast buffet compared well to other more expensive resorts we've been to. Service at the restaurants and especially the beach was very good. The pool we only got into once as we love the beach and ocean so much, but it looked very clean and we saw them each morning with snorkels on in the pool giving it a very thorough cleaning. Wifi worked very well, even down on the beach. You just had to log in every time to use it. Two things took away from our experience. One, it was a much more public beach than we had ever experienced at a resort. For the equivalent of $28 anyone could use our facilities. One day we saw people at our resort with nowhere to sit. Two, if it rains, and it did our first day, you have almost nowhere to go. The beach bar has a very limited seating.

Clean hotel by the beach

Posted Jun 22, 2015
We spent a week at Aluxes and had the most amazing experience. All the locals talk very highly of the island and it is said visitors frequent Aluxes over any other hotel on the island. We flew into cancun and took the 25 minute ferry (ultramar) into the island. The ferry ride is always on time, running every half hour, and sometimes you get a very nice acoustic performance during the ride. The walk from the ferry to the hotel is about 15minutes. On a hot day with luggage it might not be the best option, but it seems silly to take a taxi being its so nearby. The staff is very welcoming and speak English pretty fluently. We stayed in the "honeymoon suite" with the jacuzzi on the balcony. The rooms are very clean and room service is quick. There are 4 options for food: Satay the Thai restaurant you need to make reservations for, and hands down the best food, the beach club catering to all the beach goers, sabor, the buffet restaurant which had several themes each night, and the pool bar where you could order snacks - our personal favorite! Eduardo and Christian at the pool bar were so friendly and definitely kept the party going with their specials. The only negative is that last call at the pool bar is 6:30pm but that didn't seem to be a major issue at all. The food, including room service, with the exception of Satay was just okay. Don't expect fine dining. A must do on the island is renting a golf cart which you can do at reception.

Overall stay was good. The only negative thing is the food wasn't good. I suggest you don't do all inclusive and get food somwehere else. There are a lot of reataurants on hidalgo street real close by the hotel.

Family Getaway at Privilege

Posted Jun 15, 2015
Pros: Friendly staff(Hector), clean and comfortable.
Cons: Food-more options(after 7 days want something else)
Location: Scuba- Casa del Buseo,
This was our second time to Privilege Aluxes in the last year and we would go again in a heartbeat. The moment you get there, you are greeted by friendly staff and a glass of champagne. The hotel is so well maintained and very clean, we couldn't be happier with how our hotel room and the accommodations all around. The staff really makes this place, especially Hector. If you happen to be at breakfast say hello to Hector. He remembered us from last year and took the time every morning to come and chat for a while. That is world class service. He made sure we were always having a good time and was always asking if he could make the stay better. The island itself is amazing and golf carts are for rent right outside the hotel. Take the time to explore the island and the culture, and of course the food. We did a lot of scuba on the trip, logged 8 dives total. Highly suggest, Casa Del Buseo, ask for Pablo, he will take care of you. They are the most affordable and the safest I have ever experienced. And how can i forget, the beach is amazing and the water is clear. Get to the beach early and reserve your spot, they fill up very quickly.

Our Favorite Place to Stay!

Posted Jun 14, 2015
Pros: Always booked full, but it never seems crowded anywhere you go on the property. They are not stingy with the alcohol either!!
Location: walk up to north beach....even more gorgeous.
We absolutely love this hotel and have been staying here for the last 5-6 years now. From the moment we walk in, we feel welcomed. The suite deluxe room, very spacious, and the bedding/pillows are soooo comfy! We have stayed in all the buildings, and have never had a bad view. Regardless if it is on the school side or the graveyard side....its all just an experience you have to be open to. The omelet station at the breakfast buffet is really good, service can be slow...but who should be in a hurry on vacation! Satay restaurant has come a long way, but don't be hungry when you get there, it takes awhile, but a great time for laughing and recapping the day! Cafe Del Mar is the place to eat and drink at night! Love the beach service and they even bring lunch to you at your palapa. Nightly entertainment is good, I just wish they would stay open and play past 11pm. The beach is gorgeous! The spa services are way overpriced, so I always get a massage on the beach off the property even though the hotel does not recommend you do so....but $35 for an hour, all I can say is wow and worth it! An awesome relaxing vacation!
