Overall, very good experience. Except for them messing up my dinner reservations, everything went very well. The manager at the steakhouse was not nice but the manager at the vip restaurant and buffet was great. Estaban, the lobby's bartender was great and everyone else for the most part were very welcoming. I would recommend this place. It was fun!

Perfect hotel for our Honeymoon Trip!

Posted Jan 28, 2015
Pros: The hotel was beautiful, the grounds were prestine, the beach and views were amazing. Lots of ocean activities.
Cons: Although the food was great, we were really hoping that the hotel would have a Teppanyaki style restaurant where they cook at your table.
Location: The location was beautiful. Close to downtown food, shopping, and entertainment.
My wife and I did a lot of searching to find the perfect place for out honeymoon. It was the first time either of us had been to mexico, and we wanted our trip to be unforgettable. From the moment we arrived at this hotel, we were treated with the utmost care and respect. After checking in and finding our room, we were a little dissapointed that our "Ocean View Room" had no a very limited view of the ocean. At this point we were a little disappointed, but after returning to the front desk and speaking with a representative, they upgraded our room at no charge to one of the nicest rooms they had on the top floor of the building. Not only was this room beautiful, but from the 17th floor we could see miles out into the beautiful blue ocean. On top of the upgraded room, they also set us up with a free couples massage. We were constantly impressed by the entire staff at the hotel, from the bar tenders to waiters, performers and pool staff. Everything about this hotel surpassed our expectations which in turn made my wife and me very happy. I would recommend this hotel to ANYONE who is looking for an incredible hotel with an awesome staff, located on a beautiful ocean.

Really disappointing

Pros: The shower
Cons: Food, Drinks, Customer Service, designating some swimming pools "family" and others "adult only," creating shade in some swimming pools,
As is the case with most large resorts in the area, Riu Palace boasts that they have a buffet plus 5 theme restaurants (for which reservations are required.) All of the feedback on Tripadvisor suggested that getting a reservation at the restaurants was seldom a problem (they have two seating times each night.) Upon checkin, it was too late to make a reservation for that evening for dinner (which is fine) so we only had two remaining dinners at the resort. We were advised by the concierge to go to guest services the following morning to make reservations. The following morning around 10am we stopped by guest services to make our reservations but we were informed that ALL the restaurants were totally booked both that evening and the following evening. The guest services representative was not apologetic. She never once said she was sorry, offered us a credit at the spa, or a room upgrade or something to console us for the inconvenience. She offered to put us on the waitlist and that was that. So the only food we were able to sample breakfast, lunch, and dinner was the buffet. The buffet food was totally mediocre, bland and often cold. It was definitely subpar compared to buffets at the other resorts we've stayed.

Great fast getaway - close to airport and beach

Posted Jan 27, 2015
Pros: Easy energy - everyone there was enjoying themselves and staff was very available, plentiful, and helpful to us.
Cons: Perhaps the only thing I would prefer at another resort is the proximity to the street, you could hear traffic driving by often.
Location: We walked to the other Riu's and safely and quickly travelled to the flea market for souvenir's.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Riu Peninsula. We have stayed with the Riu brand before and enjoy consistency in cleanliness, food, and organization. We took a short taxi to the other Riu's down the street and enjoyed changing things up a bit. We only travelled for 4 days, and were never bored with options or activity. The beach options were fun, we took the sailboat our and easily manuevered it. Stayed in the hot tub suites and enjoyed neighbors and friends outside. Great music and atmosphere throughout resort.

Great Find! The staff was extremely welcoming and friendly. We were upgraded to a double balcony room upon arrival. They provided champagne and chocolate strawberries to celebrate our two year anniversary! We definitely plan on visiting again in the future.

One of the top all-inclusive hotels in Cancun!

Posted Jan 27, 2015
Pros: Everything. From the five large pools, three heated, to the long, gorgeous beach, to the large, walk-in shower plus tub, large-patio room.
Cons: Minor nits: 1) please open the coffee bar at 7 a.m. (not 10 a.m.), 2) are towel cards really necessary, 3) expand the menus at the restaurants
Location: Xel-Ha - the all inclusive, natural water park - don't miss it! Food, activities, towels, lockers, snorkel-gear, etc. for one very reasonable price.
Our family, along with others, have joined forces for our fifth year in a row. This time with six kids and eight adults. We've been to Dreams Cancun (soon to be Hyatt Ziva) twice, Grand Park Royal Cancun Caribe one time and Fiesta Americana Condesa Cancun one time. Overall, Riu Palace Peninsula Cancun is the easiest to recommend. All were top-notch with some areas slightly better than others, but Riu Palace Peninsula is probably the overall most likable by a wide-variety of people and ages. It is well-designed, landscaped and finished, comfortable, never felt crowed even when full, and had excellent food. The staff was excellent. Kids club was great. More water sports were included. Outdoor, pool-side feast served up daily. Nightly entertainment. Bottled water everywhere. An espresso machine at the swim up pool bar. Three heated outdoor pools! Just go and relax in luxury. Oddly, we all felt that the buffet was better than the restaurants, which was not the case at the other resorts. It just that the restaurant menus were limited in selections and the buffets were so expansive and over-the-top that they could not be beaten. We caught two lobster nights in one week. Caviar and lox every morning. Along with probably one hundred other items at each meal. Just fantastic.

Great pools and beach front!

Posted Jan 26, 2015
Pros: It was easy to access all activities. There were shows each night, which was a fun way to spend the time after dinner.
Cons: The hotel only had 3 or 4 mexican beers available. Nothing I typically drink in the US. Would have been nice to have more popular varieties.
Location: We had access to all other Riu in Cancun. We visited the others and like this one best. Close to ferry to Mujeres.
My husband I spent our honeymoon here. The hotel was clean and beautiful. The pools were well maintained. This hotel has plenty of space!! We never had to fight to find a pool chair by the pools, or at the beach. The main bar quickly became our favorite spot. We spent the money for the VIP Adult area. It wasn't necessary. The views are not as nice as the main tower. PLUS, you have to walk further to everything. The VIP package gave you access to dine in the restaurants, but the food was all the same as what was in the buffet. The resort says all tips are included, but that is not really true. Bring plenty of tipping cash. This is especially important at the pool. If you want a drink with alcohol, you have to tip. I would have loved fresh brewed coffee, but they only use instant for the breakfast coffee.
