Modern, sexy, fun hotel

Posted Dec 16, 2014
Location: The hotel is right next to the ferry that leaves for Isla Mujeres. take a day trip!
Booked the Riu Palace Peninsula for a large group of ladies. The hotel was clean, new, modern, and updated. We all enjoyed ourselves. The food was good, the drinks were strong, and the atmosphere was fun!

Beautiful Location, Horrible Food and Room

Posted Dec 14, 2014
Pros: Location
Cons: Food and Room Comfort
Location: Near to a shopping mall, Close to motorized water activities and short bus trip to the City
Hotel Location is Great. Beach is Beautiful. However rooms are like Cheap US Motels. Nothing luxurious. Beds were uncomfortable and room decors are from the 1970's and room quality was terrible in general - Broken Doors, Dirty Floor Corners and Dirty Tubs. AC were barely working and noisy Another issue in the room was water quality. Tap Water Tasted like Sewer and Hotel Staff was denying this. Fans were not working in many cases. The worst thing in the hotel is the food. Vegetarians beware - 99% of the food contains meat and the food quality was terrible and repetitive. The menu is exactly the same in the buffet for all days and the reservation restaurants are the same buffet food served in a plate - Terrible to say the least. Also lots of cross contamination in food (Chefs and hotel guests using the same utensils for meat and vegetable dishes with no concern for the vegetarians)

very nice, not the best

Posted Dec 12, 2014
Pros: the room, comfortable bed, service, food, premium liqueurs, entertainment
Cons: mixed drinks, restaurant reservation system.
Location: the dock is nearby. they have some tours and ferry to Isla Mujeres. Rent a golf cart on IM and explore the island for good swimming and snorkeling
we had a disagreement with our friends about 'best AI in Cancun'. so we decided to go to Riu Palace Peninsula ( RPP) to compare with our favorite one (Live Aqua). we still have disagreement, and now our friends should go ( at least we think so) to our favorite one. then they can make informed decision next time :) the hotel is very, very nice, and every room has ocean view. but here are deal breakers for us: 1. the hotel is on calm side of hotel zone, but swimming in the see is not better. at least, I didn't see much difference. 2. annoying system of restaurant reservation for dinner. you'll have better changes if you'll just go there at dinner time asking for waiting list. then just sit at lobby bar waiting for openings. 3. they have good quality champagne, premium liqueurs, but mixed drinks are not so good even at the lobby, so don't get exited when ordering it at the beach. less expectations = less disappointment 4. this location is a ride away from any other entertainment or shopping in the town. you may take the taxi, and you better bargain with them. or you may use public bus and be in the center just after 2 stops. it's very safe, and convenient, and less than a $1 pp. you don't have to know Spanish to use it, and we never waited more then 5 minutes on the bus stop. I don't see this scenario, but if we'll "have to go to Riu Palace again" - then I'd prefer Riu Palace Las Americas. at least, they have better swimming beach area and location than Peninsula

Very Nice Resort--but the food is not as nice!

Posted Dec 11, 2014
Pros: Trendy, Clean, Convenient location
Cons: the FOOD and WINE
Location: close to the ferry and some shops and restaurants. We took the ferry to Isla Mujeres--BEAUTIFUL ISLAND! We also took a bus trip to Chichen Itza
My husband and I stayed at Riu Palace 12/1/14-12/7/14 on our honeymoon...We were very pleased with the cleanliness and style of the resort. It is a newer hotel so everything is pretty modern--in a retro kind of way. We liked everything about the resort - the grounds and the pools are very clean and beautiful--very well cared for! We stayed in the VIP Adult section, we were on the 3rd floor and had a very nice ocean front suite with a huge walk in shower, soaker tub, and a jacuzzi on the balcony! The only downfall is that the entertainment section of the resort is located near the VIP area so if you like to go to bed before 11pm it can be a bit noisy, but only until about 11pm then its very quiet and relaxing. The mixed drinks are GOOD! The food is not the best and the wine and champagne are cheap quality -- Las Olas buffet (serves breakfast lunch and dinner) was pretty crappy--it LOOKS delicious the food choices are huge but the food is not good. The Italian buffet (serves lunch and dinner) and the Isla Mujeres buffet are better, but still not anything outstanding. The "exclusive" restaurants (which require an advanced reservation) are a hit or miss...We recommend "Tamales" Mexican restaurant, the "Steakhouse" and Krystal -- their food is decent, but again nothing that knocked our sox off. Stay away from Kulinarium--looks nice--food sucks, there is also a Japanese Restaurant which we did not try... I would recommend this hotel other than the cuisine.

Excellent Service

Posted Dec 3, 2014
Pros: the staff and the restaurants
Cons: cleaning products, mattress and pillow
The Hotel it was pretty nice when i get there we wait for an hour but it was ok we went to the restaurant and by the time we finish the room it was ready and we got an upgrade for the wait (ocean view). the room it was ok kind of dirty thats why they got a 3 but after the first day they clean the room again and it was better. another thing that they need to work is on the old spring mattress and the pillow not comfortable at all. overall the hotel is pretty good the food was excellent and the staff perfect. get rady to tip everybody because they deserve it.
