Romantic hotel by the sea

Posted Nov 25, 2014
This was our second stay at this lovely hotel at the edge of the Caribbean. Sure, there are minor inconveniences - the plumbing isn't great, but the setting is marvelous and the room is rather nice. The balcony has an amazing sea view and the view looking down the shore promenade is great as well (walk south along the seawall promenade at sunrise or sunset for a treat!). Convenient to the ferry terminal, but on the other side of the island, so no day tripper traffic. Near the south end of Hidalgo Street, the main tourist drag and an easy walk to the North Beach, the nicest on the island. Also near good grocery and liquor stores, as well as many restaurants and shops. The staff is very friendly and laid back, but always ready to be of assistance. Perfect for couples, but also family friendly.

Nice hotel in a great location. Views from the rooms with upper level balconies were the best.

We had a wonderful time on the island and would definetly return. The hotel is older and nothing fancy but the room was very clean. Pool could use a cleaning. Good price for the location. Views were beautiful and close to shopping, restaurants and walking distance to the fairy. Rent a bike or golf cart and tour the island.

Nice Hotel, great price and location

Pros: Private ocean view balcony. Quiet Hotel. Great Location.
Cons: Minor detail...The hotel could provide a better quality of soaps, shampoos and conditioners.
Location: Just a 5-10 minute walk to the best beach on the island. Just few blocks away from the main shopping/restaurant district. 15-20 feet from the ocean.
We just returned from a 4 day stay at Rocamar and were very pleased. This is not a new hotel but it is in great condition and has a modern feel. As many places on Isla this time of year they were painting some of the property and even remodeling some of the rooms. This painting and remodeling didn't bother our stay at all. My wife and I enjoyed our stay here.

Excellent Bang for your Buck!

Pros: Ocean Views Peaceful Great Location
Cons: Better water pressure? But oh well, not a big concern.
Location: 5 minute walk to and from ferry!! 10-12 minute walk to North beach 5 minute walk to restaurants and shops. 2 min walk to grocery store
I stayed at the Rocamar Mon-Thurs this week. As a solo woman traveler seeking solitude during my stay on Isla, I had agonized a lot about where to stay and had considered something closer to the North beach but was afraid of the "scene" I might encounter there. I absolutely made the right choice in the Rocamar. With it's incredible ocean views (note: while the hotel sits right on the edge of the ocean the rocky shore is not swimable - the beach is less than a 10-12 min walk from the hotel), very clean, quiet (the rooms seem very well insulated) minimalist rooms, very comfy bed and 5 min walk from the ferry, I was extremely pleased with my choice. I can't think of one single negative thing to say about my stay as it exceeded my expectations for this hotel. Falling asleep and waking up to the sounds of the waves crashing against the shoreline, fantastic! I'll add that there is a bar fridge in the room and filtered water in the hall to which guests can help themselves. I would definitely stay here again!

Cheap for a reason.

This hotel is very run down, it has a fab location and the rooms are a good size and have a great view. The front desk staff are very unfriendly. The whole place is full of patchy paintwork and bad workman ship, the pool looks filthy, they really need to get on top of their maintenance.

Nice simple clean Hotel right on the sea

Posted Oct 7, 2014
Cons: Water pressure was low - but hey - it's an Island so no mains I guess.
Location: Walking distance to everything downtown (main area)
Amazing views - nice and clean - we had a balcony which was wonderful and had a hammock fixed in it. Very pleased with the hotel.
