“It could of been better”

The food was horrible, the hotel was too far from the beach, there was no security, and the staff was not dressed appropriatly.

“I would go back”

The stay in this hotel was great. The price excellent. The staff very friendly and great customer service. This is an economic hotel that provides all the services offered on their website. Clean, nice environment and quiet even though is located in a very important intersection (Lopez Portillo/Bonampak). Location is great and easy access to the local bus services to go around the city or to the Hotel Zone. The area gives a sense of security to walk to close by markets or stores. If returning to Cancun I would stay there for sure.

“Not for the faint hearted”

Close to Downtown and well away from the Hotel Zone. Nice little hotel with a pool & hot tub. A great place to see a little of the real small town Mexico but in a down-market location so if poorly lit streets and local busses are not your thing look elsewhere.

“Super staff and very friendly.”

From the moment I arrived I felt at home at the Hotel Terracarribe. I wanted to stay away from the "HOTEL ZONE" and this was a perfect fit for me. I had a great stay their. The Housekeeping staff were the hardest working group of Ladies and Gentlemen I have seen in a long time and the quality of the work and dedication they showed really impressed me. The restaurant staff as well were extremely friendly and personal with the way they make you feel. The room was very very clean and comfortable. The pool and hot tub were very nice amenities as well. The front desk staff were very professional and answered all questions I had about the local sites and interests. The hotel is very laid back but very nice, I will stay there again. Thank you to all the nice housekeeping staff for making my stay relaxing and enjoyable. Gerald McElwaney

Area recommendations

Go to see El meco while in town its a great archeological site 2.6 mile from hotel going towards Puerto Juarez. If you want a quiet stay away from the hotel zone stay in the old downtown its a great place for those on a budget.

Must see

El Meco or Yax Kin in Mayan from the corner of Bonampak and Lopez Portillo head north towards Puerto Juarez about 2.6 miles and its on the left. You will probably have the whole place to yourself. I did. Many of the locals do not know of this place because it has been overshadowed by the larger tourist areas. You will be amazed. theses are true ruins. The cost to get in is about the price of a cup of coffee or two. Chichen Itza is the other must see. Plan ahead and do you home work about the rates because they vary from site to site. Get yourself a map of old downtown, the streets are a bit confusing but with a map you will be fine. Go to Market 28 and Market 23 great places for souvengnirs and the like. Everything we have in the US is available thier as far as things and places to eat. Great malls are everywhere. Take a ferry ride to Isla mujeres for beatiful scenery and a drop dead gorgeous beach. Waters are turquoise blue. Lots of family activities to do mostly in the hotel zone, just a few miles away. Same with nighhtlife.

“Great Hotel”

Myself and my husband went on a pre-honeymoon and stayed a couple days in Cancun. This is a great hotel, it is downtown hotel so don't expect to be surrounded by tourists. Apart from that one bus, 15mins takes you straight to the beach and the tourist area. The hotel is very clean and every time i'll go Cancun i will be staying with them. There onsite restaurant serves very nice food. The staff are very also nice. Great place should be more than 3 stars. : )

“Lovely”

Lovely Downtown Cancun Hotel. It has a helpful staff and a nice pool. The sun deck on top of the tower is worth visiting during the day as well as the night for its panoramic view. Two blocks east from Bus Route 1 that will take you to and from the Hotel Beach Zone. Six blocks east from the heart of Downtown Cancun. If prefer the local atmosphere rather the tourist area, this is a good option.

In Downtown Cancun, it is advantageous to be able to speak Spanish. The Cancun Hotel Zone is predominately English Speaking. All Cancun beaches are magnificent!

“Extremely clean, inexpensive hotel”

Extremely clean hotel! Pool cleaned & spa drained daily - housekeeping cleaned everything from windows & doors to floors. Terracaribe is a nice, inexpensive, peaceful hotel that is about 2 miles from "downtown Tulum" area, 1 mile from the pier (approx 140 pesos RT) to Isla Mujeres but close to local restaurants and markets. The "Red" R1 bus (approx 8 pesos) brings you almost back to the hotel entrance. Only disappointment was they did not have the free PC in lobby area to check emails.

“Good for the price you pay. Friendly and helpful staff”

The hotel is clean, the new Tower section is modern and if you take a balcony room in the front you will enjoy the view. I didn't use the pool but they keep it clean and also the chairs for suntanning. They have a very convenience spa, I didn't use it but looks good. The breakfast is very convenience too, from 7 am to 11 am M-S. Restaurant is closed sundays, plan ahead. The employees at the hotel are very friendly and ready to help you anytime, I think this is the best part, you don't feel alone or unsafe. Room has magnetic key, very safe feature and a small safe for your valuables inside the room. The room is comfortable, good size, tv, good size closet and the bathroom is nice too. Just be careful on the street, as every place where you are tourist, no jewerly.

Area recommendations

Well, The Hotel Zone is the safest but, you have to pay two or three times the price more than if you stay at downtown. I prefer to spend money on leisure or food than in the hotel stay. Terracaribe Hotel is safe, clean and convenience in location. You just pay 20 pesos for a taxi and to get to downtown and after take the bus that everybody takes to go to hotel zone. They have a bus line called ADO that take you from the airport to downtown Cancun or viceversa for only a few dollars. Ask for information at the front desk

When to go

I guess depends of your preferences. On high season you will find more people and more expensive prices starting from Flight, Car rental, Hotel and so on. End of March until End of August is High season. The beach is always there all year round.

What to pack

I travel by Aeromexico and they took from my luggage some new wallets. Just don't pack anything that can catch the eye. Pack your swimming suit, sandals, one hat, sunglasses, cotton shorts, in general light clothes to wear, if you want to take the sun creams from home is ok, but anyway they have plenty on the local stores. Don't forget the camera for the memories and one big towel for the beach.
