There is nowhere else to go eat. The food there is super expensive tacos are the cheapest food you could buy anywhere and I paid 25 dollars for 3 tacos and 3 quesadillas crazy. The staff members were not the friendliest and the pool was a bit dirty.

In general, everything was excellent, the only bad point is that they do not have a scale in the entire hotel to weigh the suitcases for the plane.

Customer service was poor. The rooms did not reflect what they showed on expedia.and they have a very steep incline to the entrance of the hotel and a golf cart is not provided for someone to come and get you. Also,an ocean view is actually a partial view. if you want an ocean view You must select beach front As well,when we first arrived, there was a very strong overwhelming sweet smell in the vestibule. Would I stay here again. No!

Walking into the lobby was concerning - it smelled of antiseptic cleaner, and was severely outdated. The receptionist, however, was very pleasant and check-in was easy. The room is also outdated, but very clean and the ocean view from the 8th floor was absolutely amazing. The full kitchen is well stocked. The resort grounds are also very clean. The little market in the lobby has a lot of stuff at reasonable prices. We enjoyed the pool and the activity staff were fun and nice. We only at the Cayo Largo restaurant and it was good. The beach is also really nice, equipped with showers to rinse sand/salt off. There is a very steep drop off into the water on the left side of the beach. We stayed in the middle where you could wade into the water for a long ways before it got deep. I liked this place. We were only here for a brief 2-day layover but would happily stay here again for a longer stint.

If you have bad knees or any walking limitations this isn’t the place to stay. I hate the fact that it is far from the bus lines and hard to get to the main road so that you could explore. They only allow taxis who overcharge on the property. Front desk is rude but the wait staff is amazing. The swim up bar closes way early as do the restaurants. I won’t stay here again. Also, the balcony was a sham, can’t even fit a chair it’s so slim

The property is old and they make you change the room after your first night. It is a timeshare hotel, but they don't tell you until you get moved to new room. Staff do not provide you with the information needed. They do ask you if you need help all the time, but no correct information is provided. Old building and old matress. The hotel needs an upgrade.

I liked that we had access to all royal locations in the area and they were all accessible via a free shuttle that runs every hour. The accommodations exceeded my expectations. I found the food to be very expensive and the folks in our group with dietary restrictions or allergies had a hard time because allergens were not clearly labeled on buffet items.

The staff was friendly and helpful. The rooms and common areas are impeccably clean. There is not much to do on-site. Guests, however, have access to two nearby resorts that offer more activities and restaurant options. It's not luxurious. This is an older yet well-maintained resort. If you are looking for a quiet and low-key stay, the Royal Islander would be a good choice,

The room was very comfortable and all the food options were great. Receptionist and wait staff were all very friendly and helpful. The stretch of beach at this resort is much better than most of the other resorts on the strip.

Economical Hotel option, good not great!
I did extensive research regarding hotels in the area. This was by far the most economical choice. The bell hops, front desk, restaurant were excellent. Pool bar, don't hold your breath! Transportation - Don't get sucked in like we did and get ripped off. Our hotel was 15/20 minutes away from airport and we paid $65 US. TAKE AN UBER!!! We took an Uber back to airport and it was only $15 US. Also, if you're in the downtown area by Hard Rock Cafe, take an uber. 5 minute taxi ride cost us $20 bucks, scam!!!! TAKE AN UBER EVERYWHERE YOU GO Bell hops - Very accommodating. We needed to store our bags since we got in early and also at the end of our trip. Always willing to help. Front desk - Extremely professional and helpful. Answered all of our questions and informed us with everything we needed. All reviews are correct regarding "room change" if staying a Saturday night. Not convenient but understood once explained. Restaurant - All servers were both attentive and professional. Pool bar- They ignore, ignore, and ignore some more. If you need a drink, go to the restaurant bar. Food- Sub par and expensive. Picked "breakfast" included option, not the all-inclusive. Did a lot of excursions outside hotel. Saved a lot of money and the food was 10 times better. Hotel location - Need to take a taxi/uber as there isn't anything around the hotel. Hotel room- Very outdated but comfortable. Both room shower tubs clogged. Our view was amazing!!

Worth the price!
The resort is wonderful! The staff is great. The rooms are nice. The hotel is set back from the main street so it makes eating out a little challenging. The restaurant on site was the only negative. Their breakfast buffet is wonderful; there are so many choices. It’s worth the price. But, the regular menu is very limited and the food is very blend and the meat is over cooked.

We were excited to stay at the Royal Islander. However, we were disappointed to find the pool infested with bugs the first day of arrival and our kids couldn't swim. Our room had a bad smell that came from the carpet and furniture. Lastly, we were told we had to change rooms after the first night. Not a pleasant start to our trip. We ended up changing our hotel due to these disappointments. We ended up having a much better experience at a different hotel.

It is also essential to know that insects are found anywhere in this area of Mexico, such as on the beach, gardens, cenotes, etcThe pool area is closed every day at 10 pm due to our cleaning protocols. At this time, we start the water-treatment process, which consists of pouring chemical products into the pool for its daily disinfection. Also, as part of our standards, the PH of the water in our pools is checked on a daily basis at 3 different times of the day.One of our goals is to communicate accurately and assertively to our guests about the possibility of switching rooms on Saturdays. We've made sure that this information is available on our website and all of our business partners' websites. This hotel is beautiful, we absolutely loved it and the stunning views of the beach are amazing, the staff is great and friendly as well, there is a convenience store at hotel and 3 restaurants but if you want to go shopping or to other restaurants you will need transportation, I recommend the bus it’s like a five min walk and cost 12 pesos per person, under $1, don’t worry there are many tourists one the bus
