Not just a hotel, which has an impact on service.

Pros: It is safe and comfortable. Great pool, good location.
Cons: Room Service - Menu and accuracy of service. Wifi is patchy in public areas. Stop making AI customers have to sign for everything they do/eat/use.
Location: Excellent.
The Royal Sands is a nice hotel, on a great stretch of beach and very conveniently situated. There is an excellent market and a very good restaurant for the All Inclusive guests. Food is generally very good, with the exception of the sports bar which was just poor burgers and pennon's delivered ironically from the main kitchen. However, it is primarily a time share / holiday condo complex for elderly American tourists, and this has a bearing on the services the hotel provides. The Room Service is appalling - we probably used it 6 times, and every time we had to chase after an hour and every time something was missing from our order, despite being on the slip you have to sign every time you order anything, anywhere in the resort, despite already wearing an AI bracelet! We had to move room twice, and the room facilities whilst nice, have silly issues like faulty coffee machines and the fridges/toiletries are never stocked when you first check in. It is a nice hotel, but the hotel service is woefully lacking and they need to decide wether they should just be a condo service or up their game.

Never again

Worst "all inclusive" trip ever. Everything is over the top restricted that doesn't make sense. Will never book a stay with any of the royal resorts.

The hotel was nice, clean & comfortable

Posted Jan 27, 2015
Pros: The restaurants were excellent, the beach was beautiful & the staff was friendly.
Cons: We were able to get canned beer from room service, but on the beach it came in a cup & got warm really fast.
We were very pleased with our stay at The Sands. The room was nice, the food was excellent, & it was close to the beach & the pool. The staff was friendly & very attentive. I would definitely stay there again.

Great Stay

We had a great time at Royal Sands. The place is so well kept. The beach and pool are lovely. I think that for an all inclusive the food was excellent. They do make you sign a reciept sometimes for your meal as others have noted. I think they may have stopped holding your card captive after others noted they didn't like this. They rarely asked for my room card at meals and when they did it came back quick. I never felt like people were asking for tips. When we got exceptional service we did give a tip because we appreciated the extra effort. I also gave tips at the away restaurants because they were such great meals. If you don't know, not only can you go to the restaurants at the hotel and the sister hotels, but there are a couple of stand alone restaurants that are included and they provide free shuttle service. The food was great. Yes as others mentioned there are surcharges for some of the food. But for the cost of this hotel I am certain you won't find another all inclusive that is willing to cook you Filet Mingnon. Plus the surcharge was 100 pesos for a steak, that's about $7. There were plenty of other things on the menu, and we never ended up picking things with surcharges. The rooms were immaculate. The view of the beach incredible. Changing over the room on saturday was the only downside, but given everything else I'd go back in a heartbeat. Tip: if you get a standard room call the hotel directly to upgrade. Not much more for a better room.

We stayed at the Royal Sands for 1 week, this was a 5 star hotel. They have clean rooms and facility. The staff bent over backwards to make us comfortable. We will be back.
