Pros: The room was very spacious and comfortable.
Cons: We stayed in room annex and loved it but it would have been nice to have a coffee pot in the lobby
Location: beaches and good restaurants within walking distance.

Poor restaurant bar staff

Posted Oct 12, 2013
The hotel is in a wonderful position in the centre of town and our room was extremely comfortable. Desk staff were great however the bar and restaurant staff gave the impression that they were eager to leave at the end of their shift as the bar closed at 9.30 pm. Not enough space at the bar for those guests wishing only to drink, residents not eating were corralled to a side area of the dining room. Shame that such a lovely hotel is let down by its bar/restaurant staff.

"Wonderful getaway"

Posted Apr 16, 2013
Pros: It had such a comfortable feeling about it.
Cons: I can't think of a single thing, just great.
Location: I loved the feel of everything around it, very quaint and quiet feeling, lovely.
I brought my fiance to the hotel while recuping from a recent heart attack and it was the best medicine ever, from the comfort of the bed to the wonderful food we enjoyed and the nice walks we took to the little shops. Thank you Chatham Wayside Inn for a great time, it was just what the doctor ordered!!

Beautiful hotel, disappointing desk service

Posted Oct 29, 2012
Pros: Lovingly restored, well appointed, free wifi
Cons: Service.
Location: In prime downtown Chatham on Main Street, right next to the town park.
My family lives in and around Chatham, and for a time my grandmother lived and worked at the Wayside Inn. I now live out of state, and when I needed a place to stay for my uncle's memorial service, I was excited when Expedia presented them as an option at a reasonable price. The service was at 2pm, and I called ahead to tell them I would be arriving at 1, earlier than the official check-in time of 4pm. I was told, somewhat mechanically, that they "did not guarantee your room before 4pm". 3 hours later, when I arrived and again explained my situation, I was given the same response. I asked if my family could use a room just to change for the service, the answer was: "I'm sorry, we're full." They took my cell number and said they would call when the room was ready. We had to take it upon ourselves to ask where the restrooms were and change there. As we were walking out of the hotel to the service, the woman at the desk called me over to say our room was ready. Certainly not a horror story, but I would expect at least an ounce of effort to find a solution for a customer. That said, the hotel, located right in town and a short walk from the shore, has never looked better. The lobby has a wonderful rustic elegance and the spotless room looked as if the high-end paint job had just dried. The bed was very comfortable, too.

Very quiet.

My wife and I stayed two nights after Easter. One of the nights we were the only guests in the entire Inn, I assume due to the time of year and the days of the week. The attached restaurant (The Wild Goose Tavern) was not open, which was a disappointment. The Inn provided a decent Continental Breakfast. The Inn is doing a complete renovation and our room had been done recently, so obviously it was like new. Overall a very pleasant stay.

Great hotel even in the off season!

We had a wonderful time at the Wayside Inn. The room decor was really appealing and the place was warm and cozy for a perfect winter weekend getaway but can see how easily it transistions to the beach crowd perfectly. The staff was extremely friendly and welcoming. Highly recommend and look forward to another visit!
