“Great location but nothing like the online pics!”
We booked this hotel after looking at the pictures online and due to the fact that it was on the beach. The location was great, right on a private beach. The room was falling apart, dresser drawers wouldn't open, doors falling off, peeling wallpaper, the bathroom door didn't even lock and the door to the balcony wouldn't slide without great effort. We liked that the walk to the private beach was very short and we could see the ocean from our room, but if we walked out on the balcony, it usually smelled gross. Possibly from rotting fish/seaweed or something from when the tide came in. Also, they were usually pretty accommodating when we needed something extra. However, I did ask for the skylight shade to be closed (shines right in on you at dawn) and they said they'd come back and do it. We came back from our day at the beach, it wasn't done so I went to the office. They said everyone had already gone for the day and nobody was in till 8 AM the next morning. The next day was checkout so we had to be up early so it would have been too late by then anyway. Also, we brought all of our own food because they said this room had a kitchen and we didn't want to eat out for every meal. The fridge was not full sized so all the food we brought wouldn't even fit. We had to keep a lot of it in our cooler on ice. There was no hand rail in the bathtub. The pictures of the bi-level suite online show a very updated, spacious area. That was absolutely not the case.
“Low key”
Very nice down to earth hotel. Nice size good condition rooms The beds unfortunately too springy and the bedding not great quality and would pop right off the mattress while youre sleeping.
“ocean mist”
nice hotel on the beach
“great location, older property”
This is what I expected for the price-an older, somewhat shabby property at an outstanding location. It was exactly as advertised. Although the ocean-front rooms were really ocean-view, it was a great unobsructed view, and it didn't cost that much more. I was told that the property had just changed hands, and that there would be a major face-lift off-season. I hope this doesn't jack up the price too much, because this is just what I need in a property-a reasonably priced family friendly place to stay that's not too fancy.
“Not for "5 Star Hunters" but quaint and lovely all the same....”
Admittedly, I booked this hotel with some hesitance and trepidation given all the negative reviews I had read. The price was too good to pass up...and frankly what could be THAT bad about being beach-side in the Cape? First of all, you will be hard-pressed to find a hotel right on the water that does not have some "smell issues" of some sort. Traditionally, these ocean-side homes are victims to salt air, mold spores and moisture issues because of their proximity to the water. Not to mention, any time you have decades of wet feet walking on carpets...you are bound to create odor problems. It's a fact of life in any seaside environment so if you have a real problem with a slight moisture smell....do not go here. Upon arrival, I was amazed by how clean and kempt the grounds were. Beautiful gardens, sea grass....gorgeous lawns all greeted me. I was even more captivated when I noticed that Ocean Mist sits RIGHT on the beach. The views are incredible, the beach is clean and well groomed and the hotel provides durable lounge chairs for guests. It is nestled on the fringe of a very quaint neighbourhood filled with traditional Cape cottages, lovely restaurants, parks and beaches...and is located a mere 5 minute drive to the "main drag" of South Yarmouth. Parking is free, the lot is large and you can conveniently unload you car. The rooms were definetely outdated but the linens were crisp and clean, the shower was great, the staff was lovely and we loved every minute of it. GREAT!
“Location, Location, location”
A little older than some other places we've stayed, but the local of the private beach can't be matched for the price. Loft rooms are super if you have kids so they can watch their own TV. The pool and hot tub were open and clean. Maid service was very good and the grounds were well maintained. We would go to "Ocean Mist" again!
“I will stay some place else, when I go back!”
Pool and spa were not available for entire week-end, plus..! Both were listed on-line. First room smelled very musty/mildew. 2nd room was much better, but not 100% better. The best part is the accomodations were on the ocean. Unfortunately, the buildings and rooms need some serious upgrading. The surrounding area is very nice.
“It is what it is...”
Great location right on beach but the hotel needs some help. This isnt some 4 star hotel - its better for people that just want the bare minimum at a nice location. Our room wasnt ready when promised due to some employees quitting over weekend, the ceiling leaked water onto our bed at 3am and the pool/hot tub were shut down and werent working. Its not a total dump and the location is great but the hotel itself needs some maintenance done. The staff was great and understood the issues we had - owners just need to put some money into the facility and it would be a great place!
“Ocean Mist”
The hotel is in a great location but needs some renovation and overhaul. I little TLC would make this a great place.
“A Good Cape Cod Experience”
The Ocean Mist is not without its troubles (pool was closed the entire 4th of July weekend!), but for beachfront accomodations at a reasonable price, it worked out very well. We stayed in a loft which gave us plenty of room and a place for quick breakfasts and lunches when we needed a break from the beach. Beachfront is small but very nice and gives access to a mile-long stretch for walking. We'd definitely go back!
