Dodgy Computer System?Posted Feb 18, 2014
Pros: The views were fabulous
Cons: The computer system. Our booking was lost.
Location: There are lovely walks in the near vicinity.
When we arrived we were told that we had no booking. This was despite a confirmation from Expedia the day before. There was no vacancy so we were unable to stay. The accommodation eventually found for us was not what we wanted and was worth much less than what had been paid. I would not want to have this experience again and wonder how it can happen. I would like to actually stay at the Lightstation one day as the surrounding environment was lovely.

Red Cottage, Cape Schanck - splendid isolation!Posted Oct 25, 2011 on Hotels.com
My daughter and I stayed for 1 night at Red Cottage on the Cape Schanck lightstation reserve..... and wished we had booked for longer! On our arrival at the reserve we were warmly welcomed by Tony, one of the rangers, and given our keys and directions to the proprety...and what a stunning location it turned out to be for this quaint cottage! Although somewhat old-fashioned, Red Cottage was well maintained and very spacious (3 ample-sized bedrooms, large sitting room, kitchen with dining table, large bathroom with huge bath and unlimited very hot water and separate loo). We felt "at one" with Nature in this remote location at the southern end of the Mornington Peninsula, surrounded by stunning scenery (secluded beaches, dramatic black basalt cliffs and rocks, abundant wildlife and varied vegetation). Anyone who values seclusion and breathtaking scenery would appreciate a stay at the Cape Schanck Lightstation Reserve. In our opinion the accommodation represented excellent value for money. Our stay was very enjoyable and truly memorable and we hope to be able to return to explore more of this beautiful area.
