This is the second time that I've stayed at this hotel and everything has been wonderful. It's a quiet neighborhood across the street from the Botanical Garden, yet it's a five minute walk into the center of Stellenbosch. The property itself is a comfortable B&B with every detail considered, but overall it's the staff who make every stay there a memorable one.

A wonderful B&B two minutes walk from the heart of Stellenbosch! The hotel Is an old cozy house with wonderful staff who really make you feel at home. The hotel is across the street from the botanical gardens and a short walk to the heart of Stellenbosch. I couldn’t recommend it more highly!

Charming stay in Stellenbosch
An enjoyable 2 night stay in Stellenbosch at Bonne Esperance. Handy location to town and amenities, across the road from the Botanical Gardens and a comfortable stay with great service. The breakfast choices were excellent.

Gem in the heart of historic town
What a gem of a boutique guest house in the heart of Stellenbosch. Modern day comforts within the quaintness of a Victorian home. Award winning gardens to gaze upon whilst enjoying freshly made breakfasts and teas. Friendly, enthusiastic staff willing to make every request seem a pleasure. Nespresso coffee maker AND milk frother that I haven’t found in 5* hotels across the globe! Top amenities and best linen.

Reception was excellent and extremely responsive to our needs. They permitted an early check-in and upgraded our room to compensate for us having to leave night earlier than planned.. The private wine tour that they arranged for us was wonderful. Breakfast was lovely. The property is eloquent and in an excellent location for exploring the city by foot. We loved our stay.

We really enjoyed our stay, Bonne Esperance is a charming property in a great location for visiting Stellenbosch. The staff were very helpful and the breakfast excellent. We used the laundry service which was very efficient.

Great value and great location
My husband and I stayed at the self catering guest house for 4 nights and stayed there 2 years ago for 3 nights. We find the place to be updated and in a great location to easily walk around town. The one negative side is that you can easily hear noise from the hall as people are coming and going but still a great deal for the nice. The guest house manager and staff were all really nice and accommodating. The made many suggestions and coordinated dinner reservations. They are happy to go above and beyond to make your stay enjoyable. We have stayed at other guest houses in Stellenbosch but still prefer this one and would stay again.

Beautiful building
A beautiful historic building well situated opposite the Botanical Gardens and a short walk into town. We visited during winter season - our room had everything we needed and we were able to heat it up and make it cosy. The dining room at breakfast was colder although the delicious breakfast was a good distraction! We were keen to do a wine tasting and in hindsight would have loved the staff to be more directive and give us information about tasting room closing times, before we found out the hard way. Similarly the restaurant recommended by a staff member only had 6/7 dishes on the menu but we only saw that once we were seated. We would stay here again (maybe with a better tour guide book and a thicker jumper) and defiantly return to the Botanical Gardens which are beautiful.

Lots of character
Charming property with friendly staff. Room are clean and individually decorated, adding lots of character to the house. The beds are a bit stiff, with cozy pillows and warm linens. Overall great value.

I stayed in room 2, which is right next to the reception. Small double room with very high ceiling, so it feels more spacious than it is. The entire guesthouse is being repainted outside, hence the pool area is not really relaxing and clean with all the renovations going on. I just wanted to relax, so it was a bit disappointing. All the paint was also stored directly outside my room, so I could smell it, so had to close the window. Outside on the veranda can be a bit noisy with all the traffic. People staying in the room upstairs from mine came back late and was probably packing their suit cases and made a lot of noise due to the thin ceiling, perhaps inform guests to be considerate. Otherwise the guesthouse is cosy with a lounge and free port. Someone played nice piano music. Breakfast also very satisfying.
