Charming Lord Charles!

Pros: The great hospitality of the accommodation and Lounge area which made you feel at home!
Cons: We did not feel that there was much needed in the way of improvement.
Location: Close to all shopping centres, restaurants and beaches and wine routes and places of interest!
We had a wonderful experience during our 3 week stay at The Lord Charles! From the moment we arrived we were made to feel very welcome by the friendly staff. The facilities were user friendly and comfortable. The restaurant and service was excellent and the food was at a high standard! Great staff and chef! It was very sad to leave as we felt like family. We will certainly be back there next year! Well done and thanks to all at The Lord Charles :) P&A New Zealand

Poor service

I had booked a superior room, with a terrace / patio / balcony. At arrival, there was no such room available - although paid for in full when I made the booking. The room they gave me was old and filthy. Full of cigarette burnmarks on carpet, bathroom filthy, and a lot of hair laying on linnen....... Not my hair! Shower had no shower head, with the result that everything in the bathroom got wet after having a shower. I am not coming back - waste of money and energy.

The room I booked and paid for, not available!

Cons: Room standard and service level from staff
Location: Great location
Service level was dissapointing. No help from management in getting the room I booked and paid for. Room was not nice. Full of cigarette burn marks on carperts. The shower had no shower head, not even a bottle of water available in the room.

Not good

Pros: Not much
Cons: Rooms are very very old and need upgrade.
Location: Great location - only good thing about this place
Unfriendly staff at checkin, room not as promised, room rate not clear (Free WiFi was promised, but only to a limit), breakfast area too busy, so a simple toast takes 10min+ to prepare.

We had a wonderful stay at the Lord Charles hotel . We had a great room .delicious food and very good staff who always had a smile. The pool was great and the location ideal to visit areas in the Cape . Thank you for a memorable stay and we shall be back.

Nice setting, beautiful gardens

Pros: Gardens and setting. Breakfast buffet was very good. Staff friendly.
Cons: See comments re: internet. Condition of bathroom.
We were very disappointed with a few things, 1. no baggage service when we arrived, only once we had carried our suitcases to the main lobby area. Room neat, but bathroom was "tired", dirty tile grouting and bad repairs. An extremely degrading aspect of our stay was having to go down to the hotel lobby in order to get unlimited WIFI, as a paying guest we were only entitled to 100MB per 24 hours and mine was cut off after only 10 minutes and 5MB of data traffic. I was given a voucher as an apology but the whole policy of allowing hotel visitors free, unlimited access to WIFI but limiting paying guests to 100MB in their room is shocking. Personally, I found it degrading to go down to the lobby when I was downloading a bank statement or saving photos to my Sky Drive. For this reason I would not recommend this hotel to friends, unless they do not require a reasonable internet allownace.

The time it took for the food to be prepared and served was way too long. It took more that an hour after our orders we're taken for the food to be ready. If you have kids please order way in advance. Overal the rooms and hotel was clean.

very good hotel, very accessible from N2, somerset west, stellenbosch etc... good food by the pool and good rooms, recently refurbished. hotel could use a refurbishment of public areas. Would definitely stay again.
