This is an old hotel which gives you an impression that it got stuck in 80's which us not bad if you into 80's... The staff is very friendly and helpful, but the quality of rooms and food needs some TLC...

Pros: The price
Cons: Facility parking was very small and cramped. The hotel has an 100 ZAR surcharge for any room service that needs to go away.
We really enjoyed the stay because of the location. It was located downtown in an area with cafe's and pubs. The hotel parking wasn't that great.

Loved the hotel. Rooms were comfortable. 1412 has a great view - request this room if you like light. Excellent view of mountains. Breakfast was good, so was the executive lounge where you can have light snacks and coffe/tea. Wireless service was 100 Meg / day free, and then additional capacity for a small fee. Transportation, everywhere we went we used a taxi. From the hotel to the Harbor its always 50 rand. To the airport 300 rand, to the convention center 30 rand. Hallways need to be updated. Staff is great.

Bed sheets were dirty when I arrived but overall the room was clean. Internet service was slow and spotty. The hotel service was great and the hotel experience was pleasant. It was good value.

the location was excellent or doing business downtown and also walking distance to the wharf. our room as a little small, but clean and tidy. we had access to the executive lounge for free internet service. we would recommend this hotel highly

GOOD: The people working at this hotel are SUPER NICE and helpful. The breakfast was very good and the location is convenient. BAD: the building is rather old and not really well-kept. There's a lot of work for an interior designer there.:)

Cons: Getting food poisoning from the food, management's non-caring attitude about guests.
Location: Right downtown.
WE GOT FOOD POISONING FROM THE STRAND HOTEL!!! My colleague and I booked The Strand for our last minute business trip to Capetown. The accomodations were fine - rooms were small, but clean. Nothing special. However, we did get access to the business lounge. We ate breakfast there, and all seemed fine. However, a little later, my colleague began feeling sick, and got sick. We figured it was a fluke, ate nowhere else for the day, and went back to the business lounge later that evening to get some work done. We tried the light snacks - some fruit, bread, a little soup. We went back to our rooms, and a few hours later, we were both sick. It was terrible. All night, running back and forth to the bathroom. We alerted management of the issue, and he seemed not to care at all. His attitude was awful. From there, we went back to the business lounge, checked out the food, and left. We returned later that afternoon, and just as we suspected, IT WAS THE SAME EXACT FOOD!! They had it out all day, no refrigeration or anything. Disgusting. When we got home, we went to the hospital, and they confirmed the illness and the source of it by running tests. So, thought the price seems right, the hotel is not worth your health. Stay somewhere else and have the piece of mind.

Walk to waterfront but not a night

Nice hotel with friendly and helpful staff. It was an easy walk to the waterfront and very near a hop-on/hop-off bus stop. The only downside was that I did not feel comfortable walking around the neighborhood in which the hotel was located after dark. It was not that big an issue. The hotel has a nice restaurant and bar, and is a quick cab to the waterfront, but it is something to remember.
