Close to the Waterfront

Posted Mar 29, 2015
Pros: The comfort of the bed.
Cons: The general attitude of the staff towards guests.
Location: Only 2 minutes walk from the V & A Waterfront. Take the Sightseeing bus all around Cape Town, there are lots of places to hop off.
Being close to the waterfront was a saving grace for this hotel. The staff were either badly trained or did not care much about their guests. Got off on the wrong foot when our booked double room turned out to be a twin. Was told that expedia bookings were only requests for a type of room not a firm booking of a certain type of room. They later adapted our twin beds into a double, why couldn't that have been done from the beginning. The travel assistant seemed to be unable to book anything except standard tours from leaflets. Fortunately with some persistence we were able to book what we wanted and had a wonderful day out. Breakfast was plentiful but not great food. All in all we would not stay here again..

Quiet hotel with good amenities, close to the V&A

Posted Mar 13, 2015
Pros: Friendly staff
Cons: The evening menu was poor, but we found numerous restaurants in the Waterfront
Location: Close to the V&A Waterfront with all its amenities
We stayed for 13 nights on family business. The hotel staff were extremely helpful and the free parking made a big difference to our stay. We ate breakfast at the Commodore Hotel next door (part of the same group), really excellent buffet. The hotel has recently been upgraded and was clean and comfortable. We will stay there again.

good quality hotel ideally situated for VA front

Posted Mar 9, 2015
Pros: situation of the hotel in a stylish quiet area yet only 5 mins from the buzz of the VA waterfront . Our room was comfortable and well maintained
Cons: More choice would be beneficial in restaurant dinner menu
Location: great for VA waterfront only 5 mins walk away and access to red and blue line hop on buses which are convenient for most popular attractions.
we arrived midday Sunday by pre arranged taxi from airport to hotel. gained quick access to our room . Staff from start to finish were very helpful and attentive throughout our 14 day stayWe decided not to hire a car but had good access to all popular tours with help of travel desk in hotel. Most nights we dined in a different restaurant at the VA.where there is very good choice of venues However, the hotel menu for dinner was somewhat restrictive with a bias towards spicy food. Breakfast was of a very good standard. Leaving a wintry UK towards the end of Feb. we appreciated the continuous sunshine and average temperatures of 80 degrees + although not very comfortable the 2 days where the temperature soared to over 100 degrees Overall it was a very enjoyable holiday and we will return at a latter date and would certainly recommend a stay at the Portswood

Very handy for the Waterfront

Posted Mar 1, 2015
Pros: Close to the V&A Waterfront
Cons: Update the a/c
Very friendly and helpful staff. Our room was on the ground floor so no view and the air-conditioning unit was very old and noise, but the room was clean and the bed very comfortable. Very handy for visiting the V&A waterfront which is within walking distance.

Very nice hotel, 5 min from V&A Waterfront

Posted Feb 24, 2015
Pros: Very easy access to the V&A Waterfront, free secured parking, warm breakfast, comfortable rooms and friendly staff.
Cons: Travelling desk was never staffed which would have been nice to be directed to attractions and restaurants and be advised on things to do and places.
Location: The location was great being within minutes from the V&A Waterfront and its shops, restaurants and attractions. Close to Green Point and Cape Town.
Very nice hotel within five minutes walking time from the V&A Waterfront. Room and bathroom are small but very clean and comfortable. The staff is friendly and professional and the breakfast buffet in the morning is filled with hot and cold dishes. If you have a car, it is very conveniently parked for you at no extra cost and brought back at the front door when needed. Enjoyable and stress free stay.

Nice Hotel and close to the Waterfront

Posted Feb 3, 2015
Pros: Staff were very friendly and helpful.
Cons: Staff knowledge of rooms could be improved for the right room to be allocated straight away.
Location: Location is great for access to Waterfront. Being a solo female traveller, I did feel uncomfortable having to walk through a car park to Waterfront.
Staff were friendly and welcoming to a very tired traveller from a long flight. Unfortunately I was given a disabled room and this wasn't needed for me, my room was changed quickly when I asked it to be and this was very much appreciated, however I wasn't moved to a room with a bath which is what had been booked on Expedia. Needing sleep I didn't query my room again. I would expect the hotel to provide what had been booked in the first instance.

This hotel is pure class.

I could not have been happier with my stay. The staff could not have been more helpful and always had a ready smile. The only event which slightly marred my stay was the owner of the hotel turning up with his extended family and taking over the pool area with his grandchildren on my last day. Such a shame that he sees the hotel as a playground at the expense of his guests!
