“Great Hotel - more like an apartment”

Great location and staff. Mikhail was extremely helpful with recommendations for restaurants and set us up with a driver that was the fraction of the cost of tour companies. Our room was more like an apartment than a hotel. Two bedrooms with full kitchen and living room, washer/dryer in our unit. Comfortable beds. Would definitely stay there again!

“Great home away from home”

Staying at the Mandela Rhodes gave us a perfect home base for exploring Cape Town. We had a 2 bedroom, 2 bath suite with a full (and well equipped) kitchen, living room with 2 large, comfortable sofas, dining area, and a washer and dryer. The bathrooms were equipped with hair dryers, as well as a 120 volt outlet. The master bathroom had a generously sized bathtub in addition to a separate shower. (The second bathroom had just a shower.) Our room had a spectacular view of Table Mountain. There were many good restaurants within walking distance, and the hotel is only 1 block away from Long Street (location of many clubs), which made our young adult children happy. The hotel has an underground garage, which was convenient for parking our rental car. The staff were friendly and helpful throughout our stay. They even arranged a complimentary room for us to freshen up before our 11pm flight home (check out time that day was 11am). The main restaurant (and only bar) was closed for renovation during our stay, which was disappointing, but there were numerous nearby options. We highly recommend this hotel.

Area recommendations
There are so many wonderful things to do in Cape Town, it's hard to pick just one to recommend. We especially liked our self driving tour of the Cape Penninsula for its incredible views and wildlife -- especially the penguins at Boulder's Beach. The views from Chapman's Peak are not to be missed, and cocktails and dinner at sunset overlooking the beach at Camp's Bay capped a perfect day.
Getting around
Having a rental car was essential to our family's ability to see and do everything we wanted.
What to pack
Be sure to take type M outlet adapters for your 240-volt compatible electronic equipment. Think layers when packing clothing. When we were there in May, the temperature was quite variable throughout the day. I used everything from a tank top to light weight winter jacket. Be sure to pack comfortable walking shoes. Many of the atttractions are located a bit away from the parking areas, and there are also hiking options at many of them (e.g., Table Mountain, Cape of Good Hope).

“Great hotel, unbeatable location”

Hotel is located across the street from City Sightseeing Red line and 2 blocks from Blue line. Across the street from Company Gardens and many other tourist locations. My studio apartment was beautiful, fully equipped and even with full size washer/dryer. Very modern and upscale! Buffet breakfast and roof top pool were great. I will definitely stay here again next time I am in Capetown.

Area recommendations
Downtown is a great place to stay - very close to major attractions and City Sightseeing bus routes.

“Beautiful hotel, huge apartments”

We had a two-bedroom, two-bath apartment with a complete functioning kitchen (not that we cooked). My bedroom had a view of Table Mountain. A lovely, full breakfast was included in the price of the room, served in the poolside restaurant. We had dinner one night in Doppio Zero, the Italian restaurant, and it was very good. Overall, a beautiful place with great service. One small thing - the shower drain in my daughter's bathroom was clogged, causing some flooding, and even though we reported this right away to the front desk, it never was fixed. But aside from that one oversight, everything was great, including the location.

Area recommendations
I'm a 60-year-old woman, traveling with my 23-year-old daughter. We enjoyed staying on Long Street, right in the middle of everything. We didn't have a car, and so it was convenient place to be picked up for tours, or to catch a taxi to other areas. . The area was interesting to walk around, and we didn't feel unsafe at any time. I'd recommend it to anyone who likes to get into the heart of a place.

“Great Value in Cape Town”

I was more than pleased with my stay at Mandela Rhodes while in Cape Town. It had great amenities with clean updated rooms. It was in the perfect location to walk to bars & restaurants to enjoy the night life. Their staff was also helpful with scheduling daytime activities such as tours. I plan to recommend this hotel to any friends interested in visiting Cape Town.

Area recommendations
I would recommend the city centre. Tourist can safely walk to restaurants, museums, a shopping center and bars day or night. Also cab fare to the V&A waterfront is relatively inexpensive from there. If you plan to spend most of your time on the beach you may be better off staying in Camps Bay.

“Mandela-Rhodes place hotel”

Very well located, this prison-like building aging hotel is noisy and echoed. Aircon exhaust from the next building hurled 24/7. The smoke emitted by charcoal oven of the Italian restaurant at the ground floor of the hotel flew right in our room. Maid rang the bell at 7 Sunday morning !!!!!

“Great location”

We were very pleased with our stay here. Roomy suites and unfailingly polite and helpful staff. But best of all was the central location within easy walking distance to downtown sites and restaurants, and a short drive to most attractions. There was some traffic noise, but we did not find this to be a problem. We also recommend the Italian restaurant downstairs, that has a varied menu with very good food. Helpful when you are tired and don't want to venture out.
