Excellent Hotel in Urgup

Posted Jul 17, 2014 on Hotels.com
Stayed here recently while doing the typical tourist rounds of Cappadocia and had an incredibly enjoyable experience. There are so many positives about this hotel: 1) the owner is incredibly nice/helpful, 2) the breakfast is absolutely top-notch, 3) the building is gorgeous/clean/comfortable, and 4) the WIFI is fast and reliable. There is also a large pool area surrounded by deck chairs, a bar, etc. Would highly recommend--especially at this price point! The one negative--and this is universal in Urgup--is that there is no AC. Any hotel offering the traditional stone/cave design will not have AC (we asked around) so it's just something you have to accept. It was a bit hot on the first day but the temperatures drop off at night and it was never a problem, just something that surprised us after showing up in 40 degree heat!

Nice but difficult to find in the maze of Ürgüp

Posted Sep 24, 2013
Pros: The atmosphere is nice and the staff are gentle.
Cons: Address information is very confusing. The telephone number given in Expedia is wrong. The hotels name is only written in Turkish on the building.
Location: 38.633, 34.906 is the correct position of the entrance. Google maps shows the position 20m / 50ft too much north. I.e. wrong side of the Şair M street
Charming architecture. Clean and nice rooms but the bathrooms cleaning was unfortunately not spotless. The hotel staff looked after us in a gentle way.

Charming Bed and Breakfast

Posted Sep 22, 2013 on Hotels.com
This property would be better suited to be classified in the Bed and Breakfast category - as a hotel it is not full service. The location is superb and an easy walk to town for restaurants, services etc. The breakfast is wonderful but, the best aspect of the property is the pool - beautifully maintained and a welcome relief after warm days of touring the area. The only negative is lack of air conditioning. Air conditioning is not needed for the cooling aspect but more to mask the noise of the dogs and cars in the area. The host Ishmael is very kind and will do everything in his power to provide a wonderful stay. I recommend this property as a Bed and Breakfast and would not hesitate to stay again.

What makes this small, local hotel so appealing is the large and clean pool. After a day of seeing the sights, it was a bonus to be able to return to sunbathe next to the pool. There are, no doubt, smarter hotels in Urgup, but hardly any (if any) that can boast having a swimming pool. The room was spacious and clean, and apart from the bathroom lavatory having a constant leak on the floor, was faultless. The welcome given by the owners made up for any minor imperfections in the hotel. I would definitely stay at the hotel again. - All of the locals know this hotel as the Tas Konak, so if you are coming in a taxi, call it by this name instead of the Stone Mansion!
