Caransebes is located some 200 miles (322 kilometers) from Bucharest, the country's capital.
It's recommended not to limit your tour to the points of interest in Caransebes because the whole region has been graced with an abundance of wonderful cities, attractions and landscapes. Two examples of places within a relatively short distance of Caransebes are Lugoj, 25 miles (40 kilometers) to the southeast, and Hateg, 40 miles (64 kilometers) to the west.
About 55 miles (89 kilometers) to the northwest of Caransebes is Timisoara, a regional center where you go see Piata Balcescu, Huniade Castle and Piata Uniri. Piata Operei, Piata Traian and Millennium Church are also good places to spend a little time.
This region has been graced with a deep religious history; so be sure to check out the area's most important cathedrals. If it starts raining cats and dogs, don't worry, Western Romania offers some terrific theaters, history museums and art museums, that will keep you entertained and dry.
Why not try some winter activities while you are here? Snowboarding is an idea. So is skiing. If you're the type who prefers life's gentler pursuits while on vacation, Caransebes offers great shore fishing and camping.
Before you head back to the comforts of home, you'll be bidding Caransebes a fond and teary La revedere (farewell).
