“Rustic Charm and Elegance”

If you are looking to get escape from everything this is then the La Perla Negra is the place for you! THe grounds are beautifully maintained an the staff is friendly. The room we had was big and really comfortable. There are no phones or televisions in the rooms. They have a guest phone in the lobby/bar area and a flat screen too. I will come back tot he La Perla Negra on my next trip. If you need to get away from everything this is your place.

“Black Pearl (Perla Negra)”

My wife and I stayed at the Perla Negra in January. It was a great experience. The hotel has a diverse group of people staying in a beautiful, rustic hotel right on the water. Oscar, the manager, is superb and streered us to a great Italian restaurant in Puerto Viejo, the city a mile away. We had some rain during our trip bit it was part of the experience, especially its sounds on the roof as we slept at night. We loved it. Great place. Be a little adventurous and stay there. You will not regret it.

“Great beachfront hotel.”

We had a great experience at this hotel. The staff was very friendly and and helpful, by making phone calls for us, etc. The location right on the beach was great, we could hear the waves at night. We enjoyed the small balcony right off our room. It was a quiet location, out of town about 1 mile. It was not a bad walk on the beach to get into town. You can also get meals and drinks at the hotel. We rented bikes one day, and then it was very quick to get to town.

“A unique and enjoyable experience.”

Our stay at the Perla Negra over the Christmas holidays was a lovely experience! We enjoyed the overall environment - the jungle surrounding the hotel with the beach and sea in the front. The hotel was a well designed and constructed facility that was comfortable, green and very much in keeping with the surrounding environment. All of the hotel personnel were very friendly, warm, helpful and professional. They were helpful with ideas about and direcions to all of the points of interest in the area. The hotel was very safe and secure. Our rooms had fresh linens and were cleaned every day. The food was tasty and well prepared in an open dining room facing the sea. We had a nice cooked breakfast every morning - lunch and dinner were available with prior notice. I would most certainly recommend the Perla Negra to anyone who enjoys the natural world - orchads, lizards and the sound of the sea!

“THIS IS THE PLACE! - DON'T STAY ANYWHERE ELSE IN COSTA RICA!”

We were so happy with our stay at La Perla Negra. The personal touch given to the resort by the owner Wesley, and his right-hand man Eduardo, makes you feel like you are visiting relatives. The breakfast included with the price of the room is FANTASTIC! Make sure Eduardo makes you an omelet! Even lunch / dinner / drinks at the resort were inexpensive and always available and fresh. If you like being able to see the beach, see the surf, and hear the waves from your room, La Perla Negra is the right place for you (room #5 has the best view / location). The black sand beach was AMAZING....wild horses came running out of the rainforest while we were in the ocean one day. When you are on the beach, you can look to the north and look to the south and not see a building, car, wire, or any other signs of humanity. Conveniently, though, Puerto Viejo is only a 10 minute walk / 5 minute bicycle ride away (or you can walk the beach all the way from the resort to the town). There, you will find grocery markets, restaurants, and bars to satisfy your needs. And the food is unbelievable. We HIGHLY RECOMMEND La Perla Negra, Costa Rica, and Puerto Viejo for anyone looking for a quiet, romantic, and beautiful warm-weather getaway!

“Can't Wait to go back with my friends”

My family and I stayed at La Perla Negra for a week and by the end of our vacation, we did not want to leave! Westly the Hotel Manager, was very nice and extremely helpful. We stayed in a 2 bedroom condo which was very beautiful and comfortable. The other staff members were also very wonderful. Edwardo the cook, Junior the bartender and Oscar the other manager immediately make you feel like family. One of my daughters is a vegetarian and every morning, Edwardo would go out of his way to make sure that she had food to eat. The location of the hotel was perfect, being just across the street from a private beach and only a couple of minutes by car into town. I will definitely visit La Perla Negra in the future!

“We had a wonderful time and unique experience. Strongly reccomend it for any type of travelers!!!”

This is a lovely family-managed hotel, located in front of a wild black sand Carribean beach in the middle of tropical rain forest. It is a perfect hotel for those who love wild nature. Excellent, very accomodating service! You can hear and see waves breaking down the sand from you room. If yoiu are lucky you can watch various exotic animals, butterflies, colored frogs in or around the property.

“GREAT HOTEL IF YOU LIKE A SIMPLICITY AND GREAT LOCATION”

Great location. We were right on the beach. No TV which was perfect. We had hot water maybe a total of 2 or 3 times during the week despite telling the management that we still didn't have any two different times. Breakfast was great in the morning- fresh fruit, eggs, bacon, fresh bread and delicious coffee. They called us a cab to go into town anytime we needed. I wouldn't recommend this hotel for people that might be a little more high maintenance and are used to the usual chain hotels and their amenities. Very remote, very quiet, but if you travel on a budget and like simplicity- this is ideal. Would go again. By far, best location on Playa Negra. I wouldn't stay in town due to the fact that the beach was pitiful. We had the best spot on the beach by far. Only 20 minute walk into town.

“Great place to relax!”

The management of La Perla Negra was very accomodating and helpful. This is a wonderful place for an escape. Lovely beach, jungle. NO TV or phone in room, which was JUST what we wanted. Hope to return in the future.
