String of Horses Inn

"Great hotel near Carlisle"
Great Hotel with a friendly and professional staff. The food was excellent and the prices were very reasonable. Dining is available for two hours in the morning (730-930) and the pub opens at 6pm with food availble at 630pm. The selection was also very good, even for children. Breakfast is free, both hot and cold. The double and family rooms were both spacious and comfortable. The 20 GBP ride to the Carlisle train station only took 20-30 minutes depending on the road conditions (we had a few snow/rain days). It's also ~20 miles to the central museums along Hadrian's wall, which made it accessible even during the off peak tourist season. It also was a good location for a day trip to Edinburgh. There is plenty of parking in front of the inn, although we used taxis. Overall, I'd highly recommend this place to anyone traveling in the area and I'd dine here even if I wasn't staying the night.

"Amazing Manor House"
This is the most relaxed and homey B&B we stayed in during our 6 weeks in the UK. The owners were most gracious, the grounds are amazing, beautiful river just out back. Really has the feel of being back in the 18th century. Our room was huge and comfortable. Breakfasts were excellent. Very unique place

"good hotel"
the county hotel was very clean, the staff were very polite and helpful, the thing that let it down was the appearance from outside , it looked shabby and could do with a new canopy over the entrance and from the outside the net curtains at the windows looked dirty, once inside the hotel is very clean but could do with generally updateing, this however would not stop us from staying again, the breakfasts were good and plentyful, the staff were friendly and we enjoyed our stay.

My daughter and I booked this Hotel because it was central to everything we wanted to see and it had a swimming pool. The Hotel Staff were so helpful and friendly nothing was too much trouble for them. We would recommend this hotel to friends and family and will stay there again.
