“"Good value for the money!"”

While visiting my daughter in Cartagena, Columbia, I stayed at Hotel Don Pedro de Heredia for 4 nights/5 days, April 16-20, 2011. Upon arrival, the friendly young lady at the front desk welcomed me by name and I was escorted to my room. A very pleasant young man explained the amenities of the room and hotel. The room had exposed beams in the ceiling, which fit in with the overall colonial feel of the area, but the bathroom was very updated and nice. Not once did I run out of hot water. The mattress was firm, but it is my understanding that most mattresses in Latin America are firm. With the air conditioner keeping me nice and comfortable, I slept like a baby. The breakfasts on the terrace were very good - cooked to order eggs, fresh fruit and breads, fresh squeezed orange juice and, of course, Colombian coffee. The courtyard and pool were well maintained and it was a nice place to cool off mid-day. I think that Hotel Don Pedro de Heredia is a good value for the price - I was pleasantly surprised!

“Perfect!”

We stayed in the hotel for 3 nights for our honey moon in Cartagena. We had to change rooms for the last night because our plans had changed, but the hotel staff was more than accommodating. The food was delicious and the atmosphere in the hotel was that of pure bliss; it was a mixture of colonial beauty and modern comfort. The hotel also offers free 15 minute massages per person. Centrally located in The historic walled city of Cartagena, everything that we were interested in was within walking distance. we were so in love with it's colonial charm we are planning on coming back.

“Cartagena gem”

A great colonial style hotel in the middle of the walled city. The front desk people spoke good english and were very helpful. The breakfast on the roof top was outstanding. I will stay again when I return to Cartagena.

“Very good value in the Historic Center (Ciudad Murallada)”

This hotel is an excellent value if you wish to stay in the Historic Center. Excellent location, right in the middle of everything. Best to remember this is an economical choice (not a 4star resort) - a small hotel, with reasonable, comfortable and clean rooms. Everything worked, housekeeping was very good. Satellite TV (DirecTV) on a nice flat screen with plenty of English news/programs and even the music channels. Good and dependable Wi-Fi (free) Service in each room and the public areas. AC worked adequately and the beds (foam mattress) comfortable. Very nice roof-top breakfast (included free daily)with breads , fresh topical fruits, eggs done to order (good omelet’s) and very good Colombian coffee - service very pleasant and friendly. Roof-top sun deck with chaise lounges to catch some rays small pool in the small center courtyard. No problems with reservation, terms nor charges and service at the reception was efficient and cordial. International guests from all over the globe seemed to enjoy their stay as we did

“Inside the walled city”

Apart from the musty smell which comes with an ancient building, the hotel was great. The roof deck in the evenings was almost always empty and was a great place to hang out. The location could not have been better.

“An excellent value with excellent staff”

Located near the center of the old town, this hotel is in an excellent location and is very reasonably priced. The rooms are a bit Spartan but that is to be expected for the price range. The staff are very friendly and very accommodating with good English skills.

“Great staff, nice hotel”

Hotel itself is nice enough- some rooms are better than others though they are open to requests to change rooms as we did. But the staff are very helpful. I got sick and the kitchen made me some plain rice free of charge (they only offer breakfast so it was off their serving schedule) and better than anything, they offer a service for a doctor to come evaluate you if you get very ill which I did. They came, checked me out, gave me IV fluids all in the hotel room and free of charge since it's in the hotel's insurance/services. Priceless. And the man at the front desk went to the pharmacy with my husband since he doesn't speak Spanish. Location is great for exploring the old town. Nice deck at very top. Good value overall.

“Definitely did not meet expectations.”

The check-in staff were not particularly friendly and did not speak English. The property had a moldy odor, which I guess is difficult to avoid given that the hotel is an outdoor property in a tropical climate and it was the rainy season. Our room on the top floor right beneath the kitchen had a moldy smell as well, and some walls showed water damage. During one rainy night, I heard drops of water falling from the ceiling of our room to the floor and then I started to feel drops of water on my face and pillow. Then I realized that these drops of water had to seep from the kitchen above, which I thought was really disgusting. There was also a pool of water seeping in under the door to the room. Also, if you visit Cartagena during the independence festivities, the block the hotel is located on seems to be quite active with undesirables since the police are concentrated closer to Avenida Santander where the main festivities take place. I imagine (and hope) that the block is quieter during the rest of the year. Positives were breakfast and proximity to some bars and restaurants. Free internet for those who brave the mosquito infested room. I've seen rave reviews for this hotel, and I am not sure why. My experience at this hotel was definitely subpar.
