“Low-key, charming, and comfortable”

This is a great place, a real find in an otherwise expensive part of the city. It's a Colombian-style hotel, not an American-style chain, and an old mansion around a small courtyard. I was very comfortable there and already recommended it to someone else - you won't find anything else this nice at this rate. The staff is the warmest and friendliest and did everything possible to make me feel welcome and comfortable. Breakfast is simple but great, starting with a huge bowl of fresh tropical fruit every morning. I don't eat a big breakfast, but in 4 days they served the eggs 4 different ways. The ground-floor room only had a skylight and a translucent window onto the courtyard, so it was low in natural light. The mattress was great, the A/C worked well, and there was a fridge and a safe in the room. Free computer station in the common area (outside). If I go back I will stay there again, I felt secure and well-looked-after.

“Perfect location, right price, helpful staff”

Small 12 room hotel with local charm. Very courteous and helpful staff. Breakfast included in room rate. Location is the strongest asset, it is within ten minutes walk of just about anything you want to see or do in the El Centro district of the historic Old City of Cartagena. Rooms are arranged around a peaceful central courtyard where breakfast is served. Rooms are complete with large shower, mid-sized flat screen teevee, small refrigerator, enough air conditioning for the 90 degree daily outside temperature. The room was clean and the bed comfortable. The room has a small safe but it isn't large enough for a lap top computer. There is some noise from the street but it is not a real bother and the area is certainly more quiet than if the hotel was even two blocks more further to the center of El Centro. There is free wi-fi. It is a better value and certainly better located than anything in the Boca Grande section of town. I would stay at this hotel again.

“Excellent!”

We enjoyed our stay immensely. The staff was knowledgeable, thoughtful, and eager to help. The hotel is in a prime location in the old city---a block from all the gorgeous plazas and historic sites, but on a quite side street so noise was never a problem. Its quiet courtyard provides a welcome respite from the hustle and bustle of the city streets. The room had high ceilings, soothing white comforters, and a powerful A/C system. A wonderful find!

“Great Value within the Walled City”

Nice hotel within the walled city. The hotel is actually an old colonial house with a small, but beautiful courtyard. The hotel is located in a great location from which to explore the Walled City. It's near the University of Cartagena, so when you head out in the morning, you'll be surrounded by many college-aged students who make the area lively. Our room was large, air-conditioned, and comfortable. We loved the style of the room, especially the detail of the woodwork on the ceiling.

“Great Hotel, Great Location, Highly recommended!!”

Stayed for 8 days and was extremely happy here! Its a great choice within the old city! It's a small boutique hotel with only about 12 or so rooms and a small open courtyard in the center. Very charming, clean and staff is very helpful when you need anything. Perfect location within the old city as it's on a quiet street but just a few minutes walk away from everything [safe to walk anytime - day or night]. As some others have mentioned, the hotels in the walled city are old colonial buildings so they are more on the rustic side & not as fancy or modern as something you would find in the BocaGrande part of the city. However if you want to feel the real Cartagena, this is the place to stay! Also, the nightlife is much better here with lots of great restaurants & bars. Our room was a little on the small side but the cathedral ceilings (approx 20 foot ceiling) make it feel bigger. Absolutely loved the authentic feel of the hotel. Bathroom was tiny but clean. A/C worked amazing! Breakfast is simple but good! In regards to the one person who posted a review saying that they stole stuff from him, I had quite the opposite experience. We would actually leave money out for the cleaning lady everyday as a tip & she would never take it. We didn't lock up anything & had no issues whatsoever. Because it's a small hotel, there is a small amount of staff and I can't see them doing that as they would easily know who went into your room. Bottom line - great hotel, highly recommend it!!

“A hotel with a great location, friendly staff and adequate rooms”

The hotel is in a colonial era building with a lovely interior patio where breakfast is served, and the breakfast was excellent: fruit, coffee, juice, eggs, toast and banana bread most days, and it's served to you at your table. The rooms are on the small side. Ours had a very high ceiling with a small modern bathroom built in as a separate small room. The paint on the ancient walls was peeling a bit (carefully swept up every morning), the shower had no spray head, a lamp in the room didn't work. But in spite of these minor annoyances, we enjoyed our stay because of the excellent location in the old city and the great friendly service from the staff. I'm sure you could find a more modern and luxurious hotel in Boca Grande, the modern hotel district, for the same price, but that area is the usual dull, seen-it-all-before, pizza joints and souvenir shops beach front--and the beach is silty with brown water from the river.

The hotel staff was very friendly and the price was very reasonable and affordable given its location, cleanliness and amenities.

A very nice hotel on a great location and reasonably priced. The room was clean and comfortable but there was no window to the outside and was a bit musty smelling. The shower head needed changing as the water came out in a dribble and was hard to control the temperature.
