“Good hotel, beautiful renovated bathrooms, own eabch, best of all no vendors while at the beach!”

Very good hotel, rooms renovated rooms are very nice My son & wife had an ild room that was not up to standards. If you go make sure that you are put in the area when romms have beeen renovated.

“overpriced”

considering the condition of the room we were given, i found the hotel to be quite overpriced. the room was clean but rather old and noisy and we were told that we needed to pay an extra if we wanted an upgrade which i thought was excessive as we were already paying a very high rate.

“My second time here. I will come back again.”

Overall, the staff is wonderful in responding to requests. The rooms are smallish, but that is made up by the ease and comfort of the overall experience here. The access to pools and beach is very good. Prices for food and excessories here are very pricey, but what can I say except do not come here without what you need. I paid $129 for a swimsuit for my girlfriend that we could have bought for $40 elsewhere. The experience here is very good. Too bad the rooms are smallish but like I said, they make up for it with quiet, clean rooms, a nice hammock on the balcony, lots of pools (3) and a parrot in the kiosk where you get your pool and beach towels. Breakfast is included in the prices. I'll be back

Area recommendations

MUST go to the old city of Cartagena! Very safe, lots of good food and treats and clothes and cozy streets to walk down. Very romantic. Speaking Spanish is a plus, as I can. Let's you bargain with the street vendors.

“Overall a good hotel”

We were not impressed with the wait staff in the hotel restaurant at all. The service was slow and the staff sometimes rude. This could be due to the tip being an automatic addition to the bill. The overall condition and cleanness of the hotel is excellent. The front desk staff and concierges were nice and helpful. The hotel does have a shuttle to go into town which was nice.

“Nice Hotel but a Bit Far from the OLD CITY”

I didn't like the fact that they charge an additional $50USD for a person to stay in your room for a couple hours at night and it is only until 5am. After 5am they will charge you for an additional person to stay in your room as another adult. This means it makes it a challenge to bring friend(s) to your room without having to argue your point. The hotel is very close to the airport but far from the OLD CITY where all the action is. It is a 10,000-15,000 COP ($6-$8USD) one way ride to the OLD CITY. It has a great pool, beach, and play area for kids. The hotel is gated with security guards posted at entry/exit points. I would stay here again if I came with family. If you come on business it would be better to stay in the OLD CITY even though it is more expensive but good deals can be found.

Area recommendations

I would stay within the Old City (Ciudad Amurallada) because it is convenient to everything (ie bars, clubs, restaurants, nightlife, etc). Plus, it is a historic area and great pace to walk around and take pictures. You can also buy cigars and other merchandise on the street you can't find anywhere else. For reference, you can buy a box of 25 cuban cigars (don't believe they're real) for $45,000-$50,000 COP (~$25USD). It's a good smoke. Bargain with everything vendor out on the street especially if you are American because they will try to rip the living daylights out of you! For those cigars, they will give you an initial price of $120,000-$150,000 COP (~$65-$80 USD). You can also go on horse and carriage ride around the old city and surrounding area. Cartagena is great place to visit for no more than 4-5 days. The public beach is AWFUL! You can't walk more than 5 minutes before getting hounded by multiple street vendors. If you are from NY, Boston, LA, or have visited many foreign countries you can probably handle that but, trust me, it gets very annoying.

Nightlife

"San Pedro" restaurant. Great food at a great price. I have eaten there 4 times and not once have I had a bad experience and I have worked in the food and beverage (fine dining to high volume) industry for 8 years. "Cafe del Mar" is a GREAT area to sit and have a drink and listen to music. Not to mention the view is phenomenal. "Don Fidel's" is great to sit, have cheap drinks (beers $3,000 COP, $1.75USD), walk around, and enjoy the nightlife. Santo Domingo plaza is also another place to visit as well. All this is within 5-10 minute walk.

“Very beautiful and upscale hotel I wish I had more time to stay there”

My last night before leaving Colombia I stayed at Las Americas. It's the nicest hotel I've stayed in yet and I've stayed in many in Cartagena (Hilton, Caribe, etc.) My mistake was only staying one night as I could see there are many amenities to take advantage of on this property. Also, the hotel is ON the beach. No need to cross the street. Just walk out of the hotel and you're there. Very comfortable sun shelters and chairs for hotel guests on the beach. Breakfast included is always appreciated and they serve the best buffet I've seen yet for hotels. The balconies have hammocks and the rooms are very comfortable. A perfect setting for any situation. I noticed many things for children to do here, but this hotel is also perfect for a romantic getaway for a couple. It's also not far from the airport and they have a free shuttle that goes to various places. Very good service and security!!

The old city / the wall as I call it. Friday and Saturday nights within the walls of this beautiful romantic city will always be remembered.

“Superb hotel, nice service!”

All workers had a sincere smile and were very helpful. I traveled with my dad who used a wheelchair and the hotel staff will come out of nowhere to help me. Nice clean rooms, calm beach, great breakfast buffet (lots of fresh fruit). The omelette lady (I believe her name is Luz Marina) was great and she knew she had good reviews on the internet. My only suggestion for the hotel is to offer some regional fruit juices like nispero, tamarindo or zapote. We had a great experience and will come back for sure!

“Ideal locatión for an hotel with beach and swimming pool”

Located very close to the airport (15 min) and 25 to 30 min to downtown of Cartagena wich is the nicest place to visit. There are taxi at hotel and at the historic city is easy to get a taxi for the hotel (5 to 6 USD) The hotel has a van that takes you to the city every two hours moreless. Also you can book may tours at the hotel. There ar theree restorants with differente types of meals, but you always found good fishes and sea food. Be careful in choice a room not so close to the children zone. It could a little noisy.

Area recommendations

Off course the old part of the city, with beautiful houses very well preserved, with 11 km of the old wall that surround it. There you could find many restorants, and during the night you have to go the "Cafe del Mar" with a nice view of the city.

The old monastery at the top of hill "La Popa" and the old fort of the city, wich it's name I can´t remember.

“You can get used to it! very easily!!”

First of all, Cartagena it's beautiful (even beyond pictures) so it doesn't exist such place as an ugly one. The hotel Las Americas was really good, people were polite, they have a good breakfast menu! Comfortable beds, nice hot water, nice view, the convention center it's nice and big. It's true, you can't walk to the Historic Center just like that, but they have a bus to transport you there every half hour for free! No complains.. well.. maybe just one! I wished they had a more... colombian menu, that would complete the whole traveling experience!

Area recommendations

The historic center o Centro Histórico, it's the (i don't know the translation) "colonial" part of Cartagena, the rithm of the city it's slow, so you can rest very well. You must go to the Portal de los Dulces, Museo de la Inquisición, Museo de oro, Teatro Heredia, you must walk until your feet hurt!
